Pics: RUF R Kompressor (997)
i track my car not just boulevard stoplight races
so keeping intake temps at it's lowest is in the engine's best interest. so yes, i would bother to reroute the intake.
you ever see how dirty the filter gets? it is FILTHY because of engine grime.
ya who cares if it's neat and tidy inside the engine bay. it just shows the level of engineering there is with the RUf system. if they engineer it with that level of detail, that speaks VOLUMES. overengineered? i'd take that anyday. again not bagging on EVO, they are just at different levels and i am only talking of engineering not price.
who's doing the work in there anyway? ME! if it makes it easier to do regular maintenance/checkup in a tidy compartment the better!
in a coupe, sounds are transmitted into the cabin. in a convertible it's always noisy due wind noise, other cars, your own engine, etc., so it isn't as noticable. i love the SC whine when at speed. i'm not bothered by it at idle but if i had the chance to take it or leave it, i would leave it.
Ruf's reputation does preceed itself for good reason. years and years of tuning and building cars. again not bagging on EVO. i was disppointed with a Ruf r-turbo i saw. for a RUf you expect the best/uprated brakes but they were repainted turbo brakes.
Ruf is notorios for being very conservative with it HP numbers and let it's performance numbers do the talking.
my water pump was installed on a crossbrace close to the tranny. it doesn't dip down below the car at all.

i wouldn't bother with rerouting the intake. the intake temps are surprisingly low. i don't remember what the numbers were, but i was shocked at how low it is with relation to where the intake is located. it wasn't too much higher than outside ambient. i'm curious as to why RUF went through the trouble to put the intercoolers where they did?
does the supercharger whine at idle really bother you? i can barely hear mine. although i've heard the tpc blower too, so anything will sound quiet compared to that torque beast
i'm not really concerned about the engine compartment being cramped. who's doing work in there anyway? cleanging the filter might be a pain, but that's a twice a year project. RUF's filter location is definately more convenient.
the one thing that i thought was a little so so with the evo kit is the mounting of the intercooler coolant pump and hose routing. the angle of the pump forces the hose to dip down and inch below the bottom of the car. doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. supposedly my installer has a fix for that and will be taken care of the next time i'm in there.
the one thing that really impressed me most about the EVO kit is the programming. i have a zeitronix wideband AF/boost/TPS/Lamda meter installed. i've been datalogging AF ratios vs boost and TPS on the street and on the dyno. i'm amazed at what a great job evo did maintaining proper AF ratios at idle and wide open throttle. i'm sure RUF's programming will be just as good.

I could be wrong but it look like they are IN the "manifolds". That's why it has all those extra "covers" on th emanifolds.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
you are correct. the intercoolers are in the manifolds. i don't really understand why they bothered in such a low psi application. the intake temps on the EVO are very very low, so what are they gaining by putting them there, other than hiding them? it's not like this is a 25 psi systems and they're concerned about boost loss? based on the intake temps readings i was quoted for the EVO, i don't think it could get much better than what you already have carlos, but hey, go for it.... cooler is better.
i'm surprised by the fact that you have to have a technician fly out to service the kit, or the fact that if you have a problem with the blower the motor has to be dropped doesn't have any impact with you guys.
how can you guys stand so solidly behind this product without one ever even having been installed here in the states yet? this kit reminds me of one of this really cool cars that is more of an excersise in design you see at the auto shows, but never actually makes it into production.
i'm not saying this product sucks. on the contrary. i'm sure it's outstanding and well thought out. it's just in a price point way too high for the type of car it's going on, for such a modest gain. you can by a used 996 for $40K now. what's a base 997, 72K? 28% of the base price of the car??? if they were even in the ballpark of the EVO or TPC, I'd say we'd have a hit on our hands.
okay RUF fans, which one of you is going to be the first to pony up your 20K?
okay, i'm done whining about the price of this kit
i'll let you guys get at the tech questions.

Once again....I'ma have to agree with my man deputy dawg on this one

PS: How is she running DDog? Can you actually "feel" any difference in pull with your new headers? Do you regret doing the mod. ? And is there any change in exhuast note/tone ? Thanks...

the headers are great. i would definatley do them again. feels like the top end rush is a little stronger. definite change in exhaust tone. it is much louder at wide open throttle. talk to gordon at suncoast motorsports. mention me. i'm sure he'll give you a good deal.
okay, i'm out. i don't want to hijack this thread any worse than i already have
