I am on the wall about ordering it as I wanted to know if anyone used both B&Ms in combo....
I did buy the undercar, but had no place to get it installed locally so I returned it and got the in car which I installed myself.

EVO Swiftshift

I use the EVO Swiftshift: in my 996.

http://www.evoms.com/p996tt%20swiftshift.htm

Again, I made this choice having weighed all options...B&M, Wevo, etc.

I made the right decision. I love it more an more each time I use my friends B&M. His is way less "natural" feeling...more of a racecar feel to it...just like the ones used in many Cup cars.

Yes, B&M has shorter throws, but it is much 'notchier' than my EVO. I get a very positive feel from this shifter...and I am pretty **** about that stuff.

My opinion...

I have never heard of an undercar shift reduction kit sold by Porsche as a factory part, just the aftermarket under car units sold by B&M, Ruf, and TechArt.

Keep in mind B&M now has 2 different kits. The undercar and the one that replaces the shift lever. The only one I know that Porsche sells is the shift lever style that is a B&M clone.

I have installed the B&M and Porsche shift lever style kits on local cars. As far as I am concerned they are identical. Porsche says 35% when it is an option but the TSB says 37%, but B&M says 35%. If you look at the pictures on renntech I took of the Porsche short shift install on a C4S I measured 36.85%. There is more than enough slop in the shift cable assembly to account for a 2% difference. To be consistent I measure at the end of the "slop." If I had measured at the beginning the reduction percentage would have been a bit less. Jeff

I believe the B&M/Porsche in car shifter also reduces the width (right to left) of the shift throws by 35%. This could increase the risk of shifting into the wrong gear. The undercar short shift kits keep the stock gate widths while shortening the longitudinal travel.
However the undercar kits proportionally increase the load on the shift cables. The plastic cable ends are prone to break. The in car kits do not increase the cable stress. To me the ideal setup would be the undercar kit with a replacement metal cable end.

From what I have heard is the B&M/Porsche in car SS reduce the throws into the 1-3-5 gears but have no difference on the 2-4-6 gears, while the B&M/Techart/RUF transmission SS reduce the 2-4-6 throws. Correct me if I am wrong.

I have seen this repeated several times and I do not understand. If someone can explain what is meant by reducing the throws in 1-3-5 but not 2-4-6 I will take before and after measurements on the next B&M shift lever style install. We also have a local guy who wants to put in the B&M unit that bolts to the transmission and I can do before and after measurements on that as well. Is this a side-to-side movement as if you were in neutral and wigggling the shift lever back and forth.

The under car can be installed in 30 minutes... It is simple... Much easier than the in car.

Even I can do it...

We backed the car on to Rhino ramps and did the work. We did both cars in less than an hour. I can be done even faster..

Not sure if I could do that now without scraping the lip.
