2004 996 C4S LED Tail lights

I just got my first Porsche delivered from California to New York picked. I am very interested in the LED tail lights that are out there for the 4S. Does anyone know if there is more then 1 product out there that fits the wide body. Price is steep and don't think they even match up that well. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I’ve only seen one option, and they are shockingly ugly.

The OE tail lights on the 996 C4S integrate very well with the reflector strip. The 996 C4S has one of the best rear ends ever! Leave it stock!

I have to agree... I have a turbo and wish my car had the reflector across the back.

You cannot improve on that part of the OE aesthetic! Spend your money on regular maintenance, and as things wear out consider tasteful upgrades.

Your research is correct about the LED units (the same ones fit my car)... They're not quite right, and they cost too much. It would be a downgrade for sure.

Agreed. Car is hot and the rear makes the car. I own a cabriolet and love the rear.

your car looks bad A$$ as is. Why ruin the look with this LEDs & it ruins the line with the deck lid reflector. IMO

but if you have a red car then it may work cause the red all blends in.

me personally would leave the housing alone.
What i would do is switch the 2 center brake lights to LED. There is red white or smoked you can choose from.
If you look at the turn signals, you can still see the yellow reflection which i think is ugly.
I would switch that out to a cree LED red light. The bulb itself is silver so it keeps the housing color a uniform grey. The red indicator matches the rest of the red housing when it's on also.

I recently purchased a C4s and came to the same conclusion. Instead, I just switched out all exterior bulbs with LEDs, replaced the oem relay with an led flasher relay and boom, updated lights. Keeps the pen look but the bulbs themselves look more modern.

Porsche got the rear end of the 4S right. Don't mess with that part of it. Spend your money on painting those bumperettes instead. Looks like you could also use some engine mounts, exhaust sagging a bit.

Just Lookin,

Since it’s been almost a year now with the 996; how has it been? I too am in the market and getting close to pulling the trigger on a 996 4S.

Your car looks great BTW!

Can you list parts and where you got them? willing to try it plus body color match the white part of the lamp lens and trying to light up the red strip for a killer look..

Tks

Sure thing, check this out, also posted below. Not as useful as posting links, but given it's been a while since I purchased (all from Amazon), some products may be not currently/no longer available. I think it's a complete list, but I also think I ended up with a couple extra, lol.

BTW, all bulbs are now a couple years old and still working perfectly with no bulb warnings on the dash or blown bulbs... hope that helps.

EXACTLY WHAT I WOULD DO WITH A C4S! The back is beautiful! Dont change the tail lights! Just the bulbs to LED to update the look!

The stock 996 widebody taillights perfectly match the C4S lightstrip. Modern LED lights just don't look right on the now 20 year old 996 body
