intermittent starting problem

Hi To everyone, just joined the forum after lurking around for a while. I have a 996 ,1998 model, a 3.4 with a 6 speed manual.Currently has around 140000km.
I have owned this car for 11 years and I am a very happy owner.... except for one occasional fault that I can't seem to pin down.
When I say occasional, I mean this has happened 5 times in 11 years. Occasionally after running the car, when trying to start back up, if I dont catch it on the first try it will not start for a while. Car turns over with the key, no worries, but makes a "hollow, clattering" noise . If I leave the car for a half an hour or so, it will finally start up again. So, it has never been cause for a tow truck.....just annoying.
Now the last time this happened was a week or so ago . We put a scan tool on the car this afternoon and it has come up "P0441-02. Tank vent system below limit ".
Any ideas what could be the problem? Thanks in advance... Phil from Brisbane

Ok.... so just resurrecting an old thread here.... Regarding the intermittent starting problem on my 996.
Got all the sensors replaced... Starter motor was the original, got that replaced too... Car runs like a top .... but STILL occasionally does this " not starting after it gets hot" thing. I have confirmed the car will push start when it is in this "cranking over ,not starting, hollow noises" mode. Again, went to my guy with the scan tool and found 3 codes throwing out this time .

P0441-02..... Tank vent system below limit value
P1124-01.....Fuel pump relay final stage exceeds limit value
P1126-01..... Oxygen sensing adaption ,lower load range, bank 1 exceeds limit value

Has anyone got any thoughts on what may be the problem here.

Thanks in advance... Phil from Brisbane,Oz
