996 Slipping Clutch

I have a 2000 996 Cab with 58,625 miles. The other day I was having a bit of fun with some idiot in an SUV trying to race me off a stop light. When I shifted from 3rd to 4th, the clutch started slipping, and needless to say caused some embarrassment as I was unable to pull away from the SUV. I finally did, but I was surprised this happened given that I recently put a new clutch in the car at 53,284 miles so this clutch only has about 5000 miles on it. This car is not abused, it's mainly a weekend country-roads driven vehicle. Can anyone offer up some advise as to why my clutch appears to be slipping, and what can be done?

sounds more like you were too eager to beat the SUV and shifted too quickly and aggressively. odds are the RPMs were still a bit high and you were giving it gas before the clutch fully engaged and it began to spin. i would not worry about it unless it does it all the time.
