IMS Bearing

My 01 C4 Tiptronic is going into the shop next week for an IBS replacement. I was quoted approximately $2600.00 all in. I thought that was a pretty fair price. I'm just curious to know what the cost would be in your area - what did you pay ?

The price seems reasonable if it includes oil feed, although I did a full Pedrosgarage DOF myself for less than half, including the Rear Main Seal (which I suggest you get done as well).

Depends on the bearing. Which one are you going with? I would recommend have the RMS, AOS, clutch and flywheel replaced at the same time.

My garage installed an LN Engineering single row pro retrofit. They also replaced the rear main seal at the same time. The invoice came in as quoted- $2600.00 Canadian plus taxes. My 996 is a tiptronic so no clutch work was needed.

As a follow up the new rear main seal failed a week after the new bearing was installed. The car had to go back in the shop to have it replaced. ( under warranty ) All is fine now.

I'm currently looking at a 2003 Carrera 2 with 79,000 miles on the clock. I called a shop in Nashville area and inquired on cost to replace IMS bearing and RMS and was quoted $7500, an extra $2500 to replace clutch.

BTW, what is an AOS?

Ims / rms

That seems way too high, I'd seek another estimate or two.Sorry I do not know what AOS stands for.

Did you end up finding a Nashville area shop with a fair price on the IMS. Looking now for work on a 2001 Boxster S. Thank you..

I wouldn’t say they are affordable but they know German cars.

What are your long-term thoughts on the PedrosGarage DOF?

I'm considering the PedrosGarage DOF remedy for a single row 2001 996 as well instead of the LN Engineering ceramic bearing. What are your thoughts on the DOF setup after running it for a few years? Thanks

My brother is a gearhead in the Nashville burbs. Over they years he has owned and driven multiple porsches, bmws, big trucks and RVs and his experiences with trying to get basic services have been terrible. I assumed that since Nashville is such a modern town and has a lot of music and film stars living there, that there would be a decent level of mechanics and service providers to take care of their expensive machines. Apparently not. My impression is that you can buy cars fairly cheaply there compared to Atlanta, for example. But if you have anything exotic or niche, like a diesel pusher bus/rv, your costs to maintain are going to be higher and the level of service is going to be lower. If anyone here has found a good p-car garage there with reasonable prices, skilled labor and consistently good service, please post it here!

I lived in Nashville from 1988 - 2021.
After Music City Porsche and Audi went out of business I stuck mostly to the Porsche dealer.
They are 10% more than German Performance Option but do very good work.
I have a 2015 Macan S, a 2018 Cayman S and a 2002 996 Carrera 4 which they serviced.
They will give a 10% discount to PCA members.
