Help! Emergency hood release instructions?

I am trying to replace a dead battery in my '04 911 that sat all winter, and the battery is so discharged that all power to the car is off -- meaning the inside hood release is not working. I need to get to the battery compartment. Can anyone look in their 996 manual and tell me what it says about bypassing the powered hood release? I cannot get to my manual since it is under the hood.
Many thanks!

On the drivers kick panel, there is a panel that can be pulled off which will reveal a jumping point.

Thanks, I think....

Kick panel is the panel to the left of the pedals? What is a jumping point? Is that a lever I pull? Sorry, I'm pretty much in the dark, but I really do appreciate your help.

There is a manual release concealed under / within the front bumper. Not sure where it will be, exactly, on the 04 but it is under the passenger side headlight on my 99. Its a small wire pull. You can also try using a cigarette lighter plug in style charger to get enough juice in the system to pop the hood.

grab some jumper cables, connect one end to the pull wire that is hidden inside the fuse box and ground the other end. the other positive and negative end connects to another battery source (i.e. car). done correctly, there is enough juice to press the electronic hood release button which should give you access to replace the battery.
