Muffler Bypass causing cat failure???

So it was mentioned in another thread, I just wanted to check who else has experienced this and what the possible explanations are... I’m about to do the bypass pipes but the cat failure has been putting doubt in my mind...

Gabo2k is infamous around these parts
When you say bypass pipes, what exactly are you bypassing?

Sorry for the dumb question.

I've been thinking of openning the mufflers and installing a bypass pipe there.

totally remove the mufflers and go straight from the cats to the tips... look at the fabspeed site to see what i'm talking about... exactly as stated, bypassing the mufflers...not through them, besides sound, the incentive behind this mod is to get rid of around 50lbs off the *** of the car.

I have 5k track miles with no "new" problems. The cats did fail early on, but apparently it was a defect and no relation to the bypass pipes.

I had my cats fail after a few track weekends with bypass pipes, it's a known sequellae of those pipes, they mess with the 02 sensors on the cats, resulting in a CEL. The cats are 1495$ each, they are covered under warranty for ten yrs as long as you don't show up to the dealer with bypass pipes on!
It's your call, it's great at the track, but unrealistic on the street IMO.
