ZTek Headers & mufflers being installed today but...

The shop just called and three of the header bolts on the passenger side have broke.

It's a great shop and I'm sure the outcome will be great but I feel so dang helpless and useless right now. Makes me want to ride the bike over to the shop, push them out of the way and repair the damage myself. Not because I'd do a better job but just so I'd be doing something. I haven't paced this much since my son was born.

The bolts broke off in the head? That could be a major problem couln't it? Hey Shawn did you do the front sway bar yourself? Which Cross coilovers do you have? What are CM RS98s?

Yea the bolts broke in the head. They are getting them out with "easy outs", and drilling them if that don't work. Last time I spoke to them they had gotten the first one out with the easy out, so my fingers are crossed.

I only had the rear sway bar installed so far. I was looking to get rid of some major oversteer cause by the big wide rear tires. I had the shop install everything for me thus far. The car preformed perfect at the trackday, understeer was non existant, in fact I had no problem getting the rear around when needed... and a couple times when it wasn't really needed or wanted for that matter. lol fun stuff!

The CM RS98 are the Champion Motorsport RS98 wheels 19" the rears are 11" wide and weigh only 18lbs!

I have some pictures here: http://www.shekari.org/porsche.php

The yellow 911s is the owner of the shop I use, Richard Garcia of Dyno-comp. He only had about 1K miles on the car the day we were out at Firebird.

ZeroTek Headers & Exhaust

Please keep us updated on this mod. I'm very interested in your impressions on the two products.

I just called to check the progress. They got them all out except one broken stud that they are still working on. I'm trying to just stay busy and not stress about it.

Just got a call from the shop and the car is all ready to go. Ended up requiring a couple heli-coils to get the repair done properly.

I can't wait to hear the car and check the seat dyno.

I was told that the after dyno shows 8whp increase mid-rpm and 3whp up top. I'll scan the before and after charts once I get them and post them here.

Next step will be some custom tuning after some financial recovery time.

I've had my Z-Tek headers and cans on for a month now. I LOVE them!! Combined with the V-Flow intake and the flash the car is a different animal. I don't care what the dyno says!! It is so much more fun to drive

Forgot my dang charts at home today so I can't scan and post them yet.

The most interesting observation from the charts are that with adding the headers and muflers alone (no tuning, intake, ...) the fuel got really fat. The before fuel map shows a prety stable line at 13:1 and after the mods the line became 12:1. Obviously a bit rich for a NA car. I need to decide if I am going to go intake or not and highflow cat or not so I can get the tuning done.

My butt dyno can't detect any additional power but then I was without the car for 4 days and riding my Ducati 996 Superbike around so any car feels like a slow pig. The sound though it much better. I still can bearly hear any exhaust note with partial pedal. Mash it to the floor though and it all comes alive.

We have a set of the headers and mufflers on our car here too if you want to listen to 'em!

Guys be careful with the head bolts. Try driving the car beforehand and warming things up. It's very likely on 99s especially that the end ones will break off tho.

We had the same thing happen on my car. drilled them out and retapped them. there was a customer we sent headers to and he broke the bolts. could not fix it so he took it to Porsche. They did not want to drill them out so made him buy new heads or motor part. $5K later he got his headers and exhaust on!!!! So the name of the game is spray those puppies down.

congrats on the new headers and exhaust. They sound great.

Meat heads all of you it's all about the finesse not the muscle I soaked my bolts the night before with a couple of sprays of Liquid wrench 3 or 4 times over the course of the evening. The next evening I did the swap. My C2 was a Chicago car so it had a bit of rust on the bolts. I also replaced all of the bolts with new hardware.

Sandoval is right, gotta be patient and soak the crap out of them with wd40 or LW. They are only torqued to 25ft lbs, so don't force them!

Finally got around to scanning those dyno charts.

The charts have the car listed as a '98 but it is a '99.

Baseline was run on a Friday and final was run the following Tuesday. (5/16/06)

Also there was NO time given to the ECU to adjust for the changes so I'll have to get a new run done before and after I get some tuning done.

Mods are Ztek headers & mufflers, & Green filter.

Note how rich the thing got after the install.... tuning needed badly?
