Time for 30k service....to dealer or not....

Up to now the car has been under warranty and It was easier to just take it to the dealer and if any problems were found, they could fix them under warranty...now the car is out of warranty and I called the dealer who quoted me $1100 for the 30k service.....I was thinking more like $600...but they said the 30k was pretty extensive and took the better part of a day to complete....So maybe I'll shop around, or find a good independent in SoCal....Ideas?

Defly over priced. If you can't do it yourself, call a few dealers to compare prices. $600 is probly a reasonable price for dealer. On 99, it's oil, filters (oil, air, cabin), spark plugs, various checks (brake, belt, suspension, leaks). Flush brake line if it hasn't been done in last 2-3 yrs. It should be done within 3 hrs of a tech's time. Add another $200 for parts at most and $600 should be about right.

Carlsen porsche at redwood city (http://www.carlsenporsche.com/service.shtml). I asked Brian Haske(he's in this forum too), carlsen's service advisor, a couple of months ago for the 30k service and he quoted me 599. i heard that the stevens creeeks porsche at San jose is even cheaper, around 400 or something but i'm not 100% sure. u'll have to call them and find out.

Are you serious ??? Even though the drive will we fun on the PCH gas is like $3.7/gal !Its almost 400 miles each way.

Anyway, I hope you find a dealer in SoCal ... I'm in San Diego, so I will benefit from your information !

Try Pioneer Porsche, San Diego. I don't know if they will hit the $600 mark, but they are cheaper than other dealers in this area.

PS: Please let me know when you have found one ... I have 60K miles 4000 miles away.

Found a good indy shop for $650.....they do only Porsche's and I feel good about them.....Pioneer was $915....No one in LA was under $1000, most were $1100 and up.....I asked why there was such a difference and they said overhead.

Overhead? I don't think LA commercial rents are any higher than the Bay Area...

Dominic is the man....Dropping it off on Friday for the 30k service plus transmission service.....The car has 105K on the car, 30K on the new engine, so the transmission service is due....

So how much is it ... maybe if its cheap I can drive from San Diego to LA and get my 60K miles servicing done for cheap. Plus I have friends in LA ... so I'll hit 2 birds in one stone. ..
