New 2 forum, have a question re '99s
So I'm looking into buying a daily driver, either a 993 or a 996. When looking at ebay to pass time, I've noticed that '99s are less than the last 2 years of the 993s. I know that the last of the aircooled will hold their value, but are there also issues with the first watercooled motors??
Porsche has a history of having stronger years of motors like the mid 80's and the motors in the 993s and generally you should stay away from the 90-94 cars.
Any tips????
Thanks,
PK

There is nothing wrong with a 99.. They have TSB.. which are just Bulletins to update things.. know problems with 99-03's are RMS .. rear main seal leaking.. other then that I have had just a couple of minor problems with mine... One thing to consider is that the 99's are now out of factory warranty.. so its nice if you can get a direct warranty with a dealer.. but aftermarket extended warranty companies are a joke!! You should find some good deals on 99 & 00's be patient and wait for a low mileage one in good condition.. have it checked out before you buy it its worth the extra $100 to send it to a Porsche dealer for inspection
Hey Kevin...Thanks for the feedback.
Any tips when comparing the 99/00 to a 97? Is the foot box any larger in the 996? I drove a 93 when looking at a M3 and I had a hell of a time shifting wearing dress shoes...
If the RMS is leaking on a car, is it something that Porsche will fix/replace even if it's out of warranty, or is the car on it's own (ie...re-call)?
I've looked at e46 M3's but have taken it off the list cause the price is the same and I like the drive of a 911 much better. Plus my wife drives a true 4 seater so I don't have to worry about that.

Patrick, Can't help you comparing a 996 to a 993. I have 0 experience with 993's.. As far as the RMS.. if it was fixed by Porsche it has a one year warranty even if the car is out of warranty.. And they may strecth that out a few months past the year...
I love the Cayenne!! Coming from a 4.4 X5 this a whole lot of Car!!! You wouldn't be disappointed!!

Patrickk,
If I understand your question correctly, if your car develops an RMS leak out of warranty, you are most likely going to have to shell out the $$ for it, unless you are just off warranty, or have a good relationship with the dealer

Pretty close...what I'm asking is was the RMS problem a "recall" issue so they have to fix it.
My real question is I'm debating between buying a late 993 or an early 996 as a daily driver for the next couple of years and then eventually just use it for track driving and summer trips to Tahoe when I move back to San Francisco.
I was originally looking at the e46 M3 (we have another BMW right now) but I have always wanted to track a Porsche. Depending on how much garage space we end up with I will probably track a 70's 911 for the next couple of years until my daily driver is paid off and ready to take it's place...
Thanks,
PK
