What's a Windshield Replacement Cost for 996?

My windshield replacement cost for an 02 996 with only the built in antenna? What were some of the costs you guys got? I have gotten anywhere from $1100 to $700. The $1100 promised in their add that they would beat any price the lady practically hung up on me when I told her I had a quote for $700.00 from a dealer....

if the glass is from porsche, 700 is a pretty good price. i don't like ppg or aftermarket ones as the optical quality is not as good. also, have the seals changed.

what's wrong with your old one? if u have a stone chip or bulls eye, they can be fixed easily and cheaply. a $10 kit fixed mine.

When i replaced the glass in my M3, i actually requested PPG glass over OEM...

The oem glass was softer, and less likely to break, but the PPG glass was harder and less likely to chip...

I dont know about you, but i feel that if something is going to break through a piece of glass, its going to break through...You also have the films that you can put on so that if it does break, it wont shatter through...

To me, thousands of little sand pits over time, make it near impossible to see out of the windshield in direct FL sunlight...

However, I am new to porsches...Can anyone comment on the the characteristics of the OEM glass? Judging by my cars glass, i would think its the BMW style...

-Keith

BTW i paid $320ish installed for my BMW glass plus 35 for the OEM seal

I could be wrong, but PPG probably makes the OEM glass since they own the market.

Porsche glass is german made. PPG is not.

If you live somewhere that has a lot of debris or trucks, you may want to get the windshield covered with a protective film. It's thicker than a clear bra. Some clear bra installers carry this.

Wholesale price for the glass from the dealer is just about $470. You can get is installed for a total cost of less than $800 from most national glass company. Many after market glass have the antenna in the wrong place.

PPG is OEM for the Cayenne. They also manufacture in Germany, Franc and Spain.

Usually it is! I found this out by accident...I got hit by a big rock and it put a nice little chip/crack in the windshield...I went all over my area looking for a glass repair place, and funny all the ones I knew of weer no longer doing windshield repair...hmmm....I went to one final place and the guy says call your insurance company....we all stopped because glass repair is FREE from your insurance company and the business dried up. Sure enough I called my insurance company and they sent out a guy the next day, fixed my windshield in about 15 minutes....he said it was fairly pitted and if that bothered me, call my insurance company and have them replace it...FREE.....It seems that its covered under most policies for like 3 fixes a year and a new windshield every few years....Doesnt go against your policy, and doesnt recquire a deductable, at least not at my insurance company....

I have State farm and glass is covered for free. I thought it was State Law but it might be the ins. company...

Here they arent legally allowed to increase rates for a damaged windshield, limit 1 per year. It has to do with being unfit and in most cases dangerous and illegal to drive with...

State Farm does not replace glass for free unless you specifically choose (and pay for) a ZERO comp deductable. Like all other coverages, you can choose a higher deductable and save on premium if you so choose.
