01 C2 - Extended Warranty?

Just picked up an '01 C2 with 13k miles (my first ). Took it to my mechanic and it checked out (No signs of RMS, etc.). Since it's already out of warranty, the top of the line extended warranty offered from my local dealership would run $4k (4yr/48k). Since my mechanic can handle anything that comes up for a fraction of the price, I'm not inclined to fork out the $4k for the extended warranty. Worst case, even an engine replacement through him might run $4k. So I now I'm left pondering anecdotal evidence of "never had a problem" versus "I just sold the wife and kids to pay for my 14th RMS replacement." Any opinions on warranty versus non warranty?

Thanks

Edit: I'm guessing this topic has been done to death. Any opinions before I delete this thread?

Congrats on the new ride, I'm sure you'll have a huge time in it.

I have no warranty on mine and don't feel worried about it.

I've never had a problem. A few mechanics I've spoken to in the past have said this is probably because mines a daily driver, and these cars are designed to be driven rather than stuck in a dark garage and looked at.

So, get that puppy out there and put some miles on it !
Mine got supercharged at 60k and now has 65k on it. I think more than one guy here has close to / over 100k.

:-)

Worst case - I blow the motor, I'm sure Sharkwerks could set me up with a new one at reasonable cost.

Thanks Simon. I appreciate the help. I love the car, and it's been hard for me to keep it in the garage. Supercharged. Now that's the way to go.

If you do want a warranty Warranty direct will give a 4 year/75k or 100k warranty from about 2k+ - 4k depending on deductible and term in years/miles. I got a 4yr/75k zero deductible for about 2300 ... for major components.

Hey Scott, do you know if these guys will cover modified vehicles, or do you have to keep the car totally stock ?

Simon.

I knew you wouldn't be able to resist chiming in!

Looks like I need some Schnell Headers, and a K&N intake, plus the 030 suspension kit.
