Question Actual MPG of 996

i just got my 01 c2, and i have no idea about the actual MPG

the offcial data is 18 city and 24 highway.

and my car in local daily drive could only reach the mileage of
180 and then the fuel light would turn on.

so it seems a 16 gallon tank can only reach the distance of 200 miles is that normal?

i switch gear at the RPM of 4000 and keep it around 3000.

please give me some advise...

or somebody have idea to save gas on 996?

Do you actually fill up with 16 gallons? I think the tank on my car (C4S) is around 16.9 gallons and I've never put it more than 13.5. I've seen as high as 27mph on a long freeway trip (from San Diego to Bay Area), but I usually get around 20-22mpg around town.

Also, doesn't your on-board computer calculate MPG for you?

Scott, yes the on-board computers shows only 15.1 MPG recently.

that's why i was confusing..

i really don't want to visit the gas station every week... tho...

Highway from Orange County to San Jose, I get 25 - 27 mpg traveling between 85 - 110 mph. Mixed driving I get around 23mpg. Not too shaby for a performance car.....

yeah 15pmg sounds WAY low. Unless you are in some serious traffic. I've seen 25-27 on long highway trips, NYC to Boston at 90+ mph.
Around NYC I usually average 19-20, and traffic here sux....

You may want to check your tire pressure. When I first got my '02, I was getting very low mpg (~14 or so). Then, I checked my tire pressure and they were waaaay low. Now, I get about 20-23mpg.
