Smile GT3 Sway Bar Question

Greetings,

Are you guys using the Porsche droplinks or another brand? Some people have told me I can't use the GT3 links and others say I can. Also I'm getting conflicting stories as to whether-or-not I can just use the stock front droplinks. I assume I will need adjustables at least for the rear? I'm very confused.

Thanks for your help!

Well, I am no expert but I can tell you what I'm using.

GT3 sway bars, front and rear. set to middle setting.
Agency power adjustable drop links front and rear.

Works great. Noticed more of an improvement with that than the PSS9's.

I guess this doesn't really answer your question though. It is my understanding that you can't use the stock drop links at all with the GT3 sway bars. Not to mention they're pretty flimsy anyway. I have no idea if the GT3 links would work. I would guess no as the GT3 has a different suspension setup.

If I were you I would just duplicate the setup I have. It definately works. Just make sure you loc-tite the drop links. My installer didn't do that the first time around and they came loose.

Did you put the GT3 bars with stock suspension first? then went to PSS9 ?
What were the improvements?

pss9's first. then the sway bars. i saw a much bigger difference with the sway bars than i did with the the switch from stock to the aftermarket suspension. car felt so much tighter and predictable.

here is the deal
the front links need to be 30mm shorter then the current ones on the front once the GT3 sways are installed.
the rear does not need any change.
Due to the gain in regidity i would upgrade both front and rear. the front needs to either be 30mm shorter then your stock ones or adjustable.
PM me i'm working on a cromolly set for mine at the moment, that are lighter and stronger...

sharp: are yours going to be adjustable? it was my understanding that it's preferable to go with adjustable end links if you are going to use the GT3 sway bars and you're actually going to adjust them. the way it was explained to me is that they allow you remove all the tension from the bars one way or the other so you can find a neutral position before tightening them down.

i'll probably never adjust mine, but i used the agency power adj. links just because they're so sturdy.

deputydog95, yes I’m working on both front and rear adjustable ones due to that exact reason, a fixed rear link would optimally only attach to one of the GT3 sway bars adjustable holes... rendering the adjustability of the sway bar a little redundant...

I have the GT3 bars and got a set of Racers group links. Seemed overkill but needed the different lengtht. I run alot of track and autox and have found with the PSS9's the best setting on the bars is: 2 away from full soft in the front and one away from full stiff in the rear. These cars push (understeer) a bit from the factory and to be fast you have to get that tendancy out. Seems to work great! You'll love them!

racer, deputy- What are your PSS9's set to? Do different brands of drop links have more/less settings?

Thanks again.

I think I'm 5 on the front and 7 on the rear - PSS9's

The sway bars have the adjustablity - 5 holes in the front and 4 in the rear. I don't know what the real benefits are to the adjustbale droplinks.

Sharp "a fixed rear link would optimally only attach to one of the GT3 sway bars adjustable holes... rendering the adjustability of the sway bar a little redundant..." ??????

I don't know what Sharp means?

I have tried several different combos. Of couse the load has to be off the car...... I've even heard of SCCA guys going "halfs" - or on hole in one side and another on the other side. I thinkmines perfect and I'm too scared to mess it up!

the TRG links are NOT overkill. you made a WISE choice my agency power heim joints kept binding a breaking... total of 6 times!!!! i ended up getting the TRG links and what a huge difference. i get very smooth operation, full range of motion and more importantly, no binding. the TRG links have high misalignment spacers which allow full range of motion, and have HUGE heim joints. check out my previous THREAD

as others have said, you will need a shorter drop link up front. you can reuse the oem rear links.

the way it was explained to me is that the adjustable links allow you to shorten or lengthen the link so it matches the distance needed to accomodate the different settings (holes) on the bars.
