Question Really new to porsche, helped needed for 2003 porsche...

I recently sold my 2001 m3. Great car for the weekends and clear weather. But i want something more solid. I have been wanting one since my father owned an old 944 turbo. Loved it and vowed i would one day own one myself.
I am looking at a 2003 triple black porsche 911 carrera. 16k miles. Warranty has another 8 months. What should my major concerns be? Anything major or even minor i should know about. What kinda of maintance is needed.

Really a newbie to porsche, i wanna be as well educated as i can. I have read several articles and reviews on this year. I'd like more feedback from owners themselves. Any help is appreciated!

The later 996 is a pretty stout car without many problems (yet). There is of course the RMS leak issue so check to see if any oil is left on the floor after parking it overnight. My 2004 996 has been a great car with no issues at all but I only have 13K miles on the car...

My '03 996 had 14,600 miles when I bought it - two months ago. We're up to 16,600 so far. No probs so far. Did PPI turn up issues? (if no PPI yet, do it NOW) If you can, get CPO coverage and then drive it til the wheels fall off, many many many years from now. It's a solid car.

Ozz2002,
Like you, I did research here and I also utilized Execellence Magazine to obtain info. One of the things it took a while to learn were the acronyms. I'm sure other members will be able to add additional comments. Read as many of the posts as possible to learn about the 996. When you do buy, you'll be an educated and happy owner.

RMS-rear main seal
PPI-prepurchase inspection
MAF-mass airflow (I think)

I would seriously consider an extended warranty before your factory one expires. It's well worth it! I have had my motor replaced, cats, window regulator, ignition switch and a few other small things fixed under warranty. I bought the warranty through my dealer when I reached 40k miles. It cost $2900 and has a $100 per visit deductible. It is worth the peace of mind.

My local dealer told me that I could get a 'certified' car but that they did NOT sell extended warranties. What's the poop on this?
