That head unit is made by Becker, and is actually a pretty high quality unit. If you replace it with a low end Kenwood, Clarion, etc, you'll be downgrading for sure. Have you thought about keeping the stock head unit and upgrading the speakings and/or amp?

Huh????? This unit sounds HORRIBLE.....just about any DECENT mid lelev or higher head unit will sound MUCH better. Sorry the CDR220 is not known for audio fidelity....in fact NO factory 996 stereo is known for that....You are correct in stating that about the only thing worse than the head unit is the amp and speakers....

Really appreciate the feedback chaps.

I was told that it's just a radio, it seems like the four slots below are for casettes,, what are my options right now? I wouldn't mind getting a Traffic Pro, any speaker recommendations which are reasonbly priced. i think the sound of the upgraded exhaust should keep me content for most of the times

The face fols down and exposes either a cd player or cassette player depending on the model....If you can find a traffic pro, I dont think they make them anymore, its about the same audio quality with the added nav functionality...I would get a Nakamichi...looks factory, sonds amazing....not too expensive. (~$500?) Speakers start to get expensive as the 996 uses wierd sizes and so they are no simple bolt in swaps..all recquire some modifications. But the ones I like are the Focal seperates...between $500 and $800 depending on the models....you will need a new amp...also about the same price range...

The Traffic Pro is essentially the same thing you have now but with primitive navigation, so it isn't buying you all that much.

On my 1999 stock head unit there is a button on the top right corner that
when pushed, the faceplate flips down to expose the slot for the CD.
I figure yours flips down & exposes a cassette player.
