For example... the crest shot at the start of this thread before and after.

 

Pretty impressive, greyghost. I have photoshop, but don't use it very much. What did you do, exactly, to make the before and after shots of the silver crest?

The basics are adjusting the levels, using un-sharpen mask (a sharpening tool), and add saturation (color). The most basic adjustment you can make for the biggest impact is pressing ctrl-shift-L to automatically fix the luminance levels. It works 9 out of 10 times but sometimes it makes it worse. Just play, there are lots of killer tools that can really make your photos awesome.
