How much?

Im looking to buy a set of 18" 5-spoke carrera classic wheels from someone. what is a fair price for them? How much should i be paying for them?

NOTE: someone just said they bought 8 and 11 inch turbo twists for $650. maybe use as a refernce point.

I don't believe that a Carrera Classic in 18" exists. They are 19" only. And if you were to find a set I believe they would go for 1700-2200 without tires.

So for 18" you must be either talking about the Carrera III wheel that comes standard on all non-S 997s, or the 2002+ 996 Carrera 5-spokes that also came standard on all Carreras, Cabs, and Targas. Even the Boxster S Anniversary had a grey version.

Since both these wheels are pretty standard on most Carreras sold (as opposed to sport technics, carrera classics, or turbo-look wheels), you shouldn't have a problem finding them for around 1000-1200 a set on ebay. (Probably even less if you look local or if someone just wants to get rid of them.)

Good luck and make sure you post pics! You should also make an avatar of your own car. I'm sure it looks sweet!

Actually the Carrera Lightweights were NOT standard on the 2002+ 996. A 17" multispoke was. The Carrera Lightweights were just the most common option people ordered. I see plenty of 996's btw with the stock 17" wheels around here.

The Carrera lightweights used should actually cost more than the turbo look ones, not much more but still. I would expect around 1k for a good set.

I bought a set of 18" classics from a 997 for $1500 with near new tires. Fit my 996 with 10mm front spacers (tried 15mm at first- too much), no spacers needed in rear. They fill out the wells nicely with no rubbing despite my low ride height.

I think it depends on whose selling it, people here on 6speed will just let it go for cheap.. i think if used $1000-$1500/ set is fair... anything less than it's either they just want to get rid of it or it's not original..

ok i have a couple questions. i found two sets of wheels, both 18s.

the first set is 18X8 with 50 mm offset in front, and 18X10 with a 48mm offset in back. I know the fronts will fit no prob but what do i need to do to get the back to fit, what sixe spacers and where do i get them?

the second set is 18X8.5 with a 52 mm offset in front, and 18X10 with a 58 mm offset in back. what would i need to do to get these to fit?

NOTE: stock wheels have 50 mm offset in front and 64 mm offset in back.

The second set will work fine with 52mm front and 58mm rear. The set with 48mm rears really won't work, and spacers reduce the offset, moving the wheels out further. The higher the offset, the farther in the wheel. Try 1010tires.com and go to their wheel tech section. They have an offset calulator which lets you compare wheels with different offset.

ok i talked to the guy about the wheels. I forgot the mention the wheels have a lip on them. he said with the lip they will fit. he said that the shorter offset is due to the lip. does this make more sense?

Nope!! The lip doesn't matter, the offset is relatvie to the lip. Try the offset calculator on 1010tires.com. It will show you. In any case, the OEM 5 spokes really don't have any lips to speak of.

well it didnt to me too much either, but thats what he told me. i went to the wheels offset thing at 1010tires, thanks by the way, and when i put in my info it said with the new wheels:

Inner clearance [4mm more]
Outer Position [EXTEND an extra 30 mm]

Now i dont know much about offsets so is there ANY WAY to get these to work. Does the fact that they are deep dish/have a lip matter?

OK, if you got a 30mm increase you were comparing a 9" rear w/65mm to a 10" rear with 48mm. My stock wheels are 10" with a 65mm and the wheels I bought that don't really work are 10" with a 48mm. I just got new wheels with 10" and 58mm. They seem fine. Don't buy the argument about the lips. If you look at the diagram on 1010tires you whill see that the higher the offset, the futher in the wheel moves. If you have a lower offset, the wheel moves out. If you add a bigger lip, it just makes the problem worse. And again, spacers decrease the offset, moving the wheel/tire further out, not decrease it.

so i need to use spacers on them, correct? is that the only way they are going to work?
