Having owned 3 NSX's, I would rather have a 97+ NSX over a 99 C2 all day long. It takes it in looks, maintenance costs, reliabilty, & "exoticness" (if that is a word).

I guess if you're a Bling ***** then the Porsche would be something great to fiddle with since you have a lot of options which can make your ride look just crazy.

I haven't seen too many NSX models with all the mods which can really turn it into some thing new. Think about this for a moment, the C2 can be turned into the GT3 "look" or some crazy GT2 W2B. . .

I've driven at one point or another all the cars you are looking to buy and personally think the P-car and NSX are cars you really can't compare. Sure if just look at the numbers they both look identical but that couldn't be further from the truth.

The NSX cockpic is more from an early 1990's Honda so yes you get a killer look and engine but the inside electronics leave far to be desired. Even the steering wheel looks so dated and no tilt feature!

The P-car is a much more advanced car since Porsche has been doing improvements as most mfr's do over the course of a production run. I can't speak on the reliability aspect since I've never owed one but it's definitely a more subtle car. Heck everyone here in NORCAL has a Porsche and as many of my females friends have said, they can't tell one Porsche from another so you will definitely blend in more.

I love the "punk kids/ricer" comment - seems like we all try to distance ourselves from this crowd but in reality we were all there at one point. I too used to be a ricer back in my h.s. days but that is how you learn about cars and though I've come a long way from those days I never forget where I was at before. Just cuz we get older doesn't make us cooler or the fact we can afford nicer cars. I would love to go back to those days if I could just to have fun

Try to buy a car based on your own requirements and not what others think is cool. I have my "older" cars but I also love my ricer cars (just got my 2nd s2000) and this one is something I'm keeping for a long long time.

I definitely would do some appearance mods to the Porsche. I'd like to put a GT3 spoiler in the back (don't like the spoilerless rear end of a 911), front lip, and some nice lightweight wheels. That's probably it for body mods. The rest of the money will be spent on performance parts.

Rick,

I like the interior of the NSX. The only part I find outdated is the fact that it still has a cassette deck in there. The 996 interior isn't the best looking anyways. I prefer the 997 interior. Any of these are better than a Chevy interior. Oh and I was never a ricer. I drove a beater celica (1st car and not a single mod) for years before even buying my s2k. The s2k is stock too. The s2k doesn't have tilt either BTW...

For the person asking about prices on NSXs vs. 911s, the '97-'01s are anywhere from $40k-$60k. The '02+ are from $60k-80k. For the $60k-$80k range I would much rather get a used 996TT than an NSX.

Right now it looks like I'm leaning towards a 996 unless a *great* deal on an NSX lands on my lap. There are soooo many 996 cabs for sale, but not a whole lot of coupes. I really prefer an '02 model 996 coupe, but the prices on the '99-'01s are so much less. Do these coupes ever come without a sun/moonroof?? I really don't want it due to the weight savings. So far every 996 I've seen has one.

i think u can have a nicely optioned 02 C2 coupe for around 45k. 2 years ago i had the same dilemma, An 02 C2 coupe or an NSX. i test drove both and I chose the C2 and couldn;t be happier.

I used to be a ricer too. I owned a 92 Mitsubishi 3000GT NA and a 97 3000GT VR4 (twin turbo) before and i loved them. I actually stil feel kinda sad that i sold the 97 VR4. Anyways, i still have the ricer spirit in me. i don;t see anything wrong with that and if i have enogh $$ i'll probably get an EVO MR as my DD RICE BABY!!!

Kirby,

Is it the photo skills that makes the car look that good or is it the car? Can't be both. . . That car can only be passed along to a fellow 6-speeder.

I sold this one recently, I sure miss it. Not the fastest car in the world, but it just feels 'right'. If you will mind answering questions about it all the time, don't get one.

Jarod,

I owned a 91 NSX and currently own a 2001 996 C2. If you just want a weekend car I say go for the NSX but I believe you mentioned you want to mod it and put it on the track. With that in mind I feel there is no doubt you should go with the 996. There are a lot more suppliers for mods on a 996 and I feel there is more you can do with better reliability. I have turned mine into more of a track car than a weekend car and it's incredible how well it has held up this past year on (and flying off) the track. You asked about different levels (read $$) of modding. Do a search on supercharging the 996 and you'll find plenty of info (over 400hp). A well set up (tires, brakes, suspension) 996 with no engine mods is faster than a stock 996TT around the track (flame on!). Put more money down for a supercharger and the thing will scream.
But be sure to take long test drives in both before you decide.
Good luck,
kc
