Suggested Headers / Mufflers / Flywheel for 1999 3.4

Hello all again,

I'm looking into putting a crate 3.4 back into my 1999 996. I was interested in doing the 3.6 w/ X51, but my car has the cable accelerator, and the cost and headache is not worth it. So, I'm thinking:

1 - Crate 3.4
2 - GIAC Chip
3 - Headers - looking for opinions
4 - Mufflers - looking for opinions
5 - Flywheel - Farmbaucher? looking for opinions
6 - Brey-Kraus deep oil pan

I think this will get close to the 3.6 in power, and be a drop in and fairly reliable.

Any thoughts / suggestions would be much appreciated

Rich

if this car is a street car:
no on the headers, giac and deep oil pan. the headers will soften the torque, giac moves the power curve up the rpm range but does increase it a little and the deep pan is only for oil starvation issues on LONG banked turns/high sustained G's on the track. yes on the muffler just for sond not for performance.

if the car is a track car:
yes to all of the above . giac, headers and muffler will all help the top end. also add in an evo intake. most of your track driving will be in the upper rpm ranges so these mods will help... won't be huge but it will help. the BK sump may help but i would invest in the x51 oiling kit. at the very least the updated baffled oil pan (which i have on order). i haven't gotten any oil starvation issues at the track even with r-dot kumho v710s (like sticky hoosiers) but will add the oil pan just for added security.

i wouldn't say useless. if you are expecting a punch down low in the revvs none of these mods will do it. i had the giac flash, evo intake, headers, fabspeed exhaust. they all contributed to more power but basically above 4000~4500 rpms and the major differnce above 5k. it was great for the track and for my driving style (i liked to keep the revvs high).

basically the chip added power to the top end, the header, intake and muffler allowed the system breathe better on the top end.

i recently put the oem muffler back on so that i would pass sound check at laguna seca (track sound limit is 92db). the oem is quiet and the car passed but the top end really suffered. it was a difference i REALLY could feel.

for a street fun car i would do the mufflers and intake just for the sound (the evo intake sounds AWESOME). skip the headers and don't touch the cats.

+1!!!!! Thanks for the advise man! I had been thinking of doing headers and a chip but prob will not now because this is the case. I have gemballa mufflers and will add the evo intake but will likely not do the heads as i had planned because i like the punch from down low.

it's working great. close to 20K on it now. makes good power in the higher rpm ranges (nature of the vortech supercharger). low boost so it's been easy on the engine and drivetrain. i also use water/methanol injection to cool the burn and prevent pre-detonation.
