Trouble starting 00 996 -- suggestions?

My poor car has been sitting idle for well over a month now (crappy weather, and in between houses), without the trickle charger in. As expected my battery was completely dead. I hooked up my truck to jump it, and it gets power but doesnt even try to start. All that happens when I turn the key is dashboard lights light up and the passenger window cycles up and down about 1/2". No engine clicking, no turning over, etc.

Question is, with a jump attached does this mean its something other than the battery? I'd hate to have my car towed to the dealer to find out its the battery. Any other ideas?

Like I said all that happens when I turn the key (em brake on, clutch engaged) is dash lights, beeping sounds, and passenger window going up and down!!

Thanks for any ideas...

CarreraScott,

Same thing happened to me, I was told to have the jumpers hooked up for several minutes before starting. Hope this works....

Yes, you need to keep the cables on their for awhile to generate enough power to turn over the engine. The new cars are requiring more and more power (42 amps comes into effect next year). If you still cannot get it jumped after a few minutes, you can put a charger on the batter and jump it at the same time from the grounding point. This should get it to turn over and run. Either way, you will need a new battery.

seems liek you need to recharge the battery more, u have enough juice to turn on and use soem electrical stuff but not enough juice to start the 996,, i think u need at least 12 volts or 14 to start teh car cant really rememebr fromt he top of my head,

u should get one of those portable jumpstart machines they are worth the 50 - 100 bucks you spend on them

Agreed, but when the ignition is on what is the reading from the volt meter.

Perhaps a dead cell. Enough juice to power up some systems but not enough to turn over the engine. Get a new battery.
