Whats your ride height????
yes, jack it up and wheels off. you use the included spanner wrench to adjust the spring perches. it's certainly not a five minute adjustment, as it usually takes several tries to get everything even. not to mention you really should do an alignment each time you adjust the ride height. it's really something you only want to undertake once, get the settings you like, and leave it alone.
speaking of doing "just springs". i can remember a time before the 997's came out, that people would flame the hell out of you for doing just springs.
i did the "just springs" route and it was fine for a little while, then it started riding like crap and floating through the corners.
i've noticed that's it a very common mod for the 997 series cars to do just springs. i'm kind of suprised that no one gives them **** for such a half assed approach to suspension work on such expensive new cars. i know PASM has something to do with it, but i wouldn't think this crowd would sacrifice handling and ride quality for a cosmetic drop.
i would imagine that as soon as they get a few miles on the stock shocks with the lowering springs, their cars will start turning to slop in the corners too as they're using up all the suspension travel on the stock shocks with the lowering springs.

I think its because of the lack of options on the 997s....plus those are new cars, new shocks....it may take a little longer for the shocks to go, as opposed to most people doing suspensions on used cars or a car they bought new a few years before....its a big investment and usually done somewhat last, not first. I think now there are more lowering options for the 997, PSS9's etc....at least for non PASM cars. PASM may be the hinderance, and MAYBE they designed the PASM system to accomodate a lower car??? When I was looking at 997s when they first came out, I mentioned to the dealer I would want it lower, he said, "thats nothing, just springs on a 997.".
i see what you're saying about the shocks being newer, but it still doesn't negate the fact that you're losing all the travel in the stock shocks by setting the car one and a half inches lower. there is no way the rebound and damping will perform properly with the shock compressed like that all the time. most of these guys don't keep their cars long enough for it to really matter i guess
Agreed...lol....I am assuming the PASM system is just an electronically controlled adjustable shock dampening system? Just like the PSS9's but istead of a ****, it can get set from inside the car....if thats the case, wouldnt a coilover system for a PASM equipped car need to replace those? I guess if I paid for that feature, I would throw just springs on my car too....lol....And if I bought a 997, I would make sure it had PASM...so what do you do?
i don't think i would get the car with pasm. it's a sports car. it's supposed to be a little stuff. my bilsteins ride just fine. i'm sure i would just end up riding around in sport mode all the time
hopefully not. sounds like a pain in the *** to mod your car.
who wants to take a beautifully handling car like a porsche and just put springs on the stock shocks due to the lack of option.
been there. done that. yeck....

Ahhh, thanks that makes sense.
I'm at 25.75" F / 25.5" R on M030 shocks with H&R springs -- 18" wheels. I scrape a little in/out of my driveway so won't be going any lower. I'm looking for used PSS9s for 01 996 C2 coupe if anyone is selling .......
