I think this will be another one of my winter projects while the p-car is pent up in the garage. I'm sure a few of you guys have tackled this project before....Any Advice????

 

maybe "madcat" aka JJ will get to join this board and share her experience. She has her calipers painted and they look perfect.

All I know is get some good engine paint..and mask everything off or actually even remove the brakes and just take your time. Patience is key to a good paint job.

I did mine....I used the G2 caliper paint system....its like paint and epoxy (i think) in that it has a hardening agent that once dry and hardened is EXTREMELY durable....The advice I would use is to do a coat let it dry, make sure its not streaking or is building up in any area as once it hardens, its there....My calipers look great, not perfect, but you would have to be an inch or so from them to see the mistakes, and once you get some brake dust down there....its impossible to see the imperfections....Get the caliper stickers from http://www.xenonmods.com/.....

Your car looks sinister regardless but the yellow calipers are a great touch.
If you don't mind a couple questions - how long did the whole process take and what was the total cost ? What prep was invoved in cleaning the calipers prior to painting?

I did the calipers in an afternoon. It comes with a caliper cleaner so you can clean the calipers first. The I masked, and painted. It has to dry like 4 hours I think before you mount the wheels and I let it sit overnight before driving for everything to really dry and the epoxy to harden. So I started on Saturday, was driving on Sunday.

Does the paint or the stickers peal/blister when they get hot, ie. track day?

 

nope...hi-temp stickers....plus its not really the calipers that get that hot...its the rotors.

 

Newport - are you running spacers?

 

15mm in the front...no spacers on the rear.

Our G2 paint works very well and is easy to use. The fact that it's a two stage epoxy makes it much more durable than paint. I have sprayed before using engine paint and was sorry - way too much effort goes into taping and fixing oversray. It's about $38 a kit, will do one full car, and hardens like a rock.

I have also used the caliper decals from xenonmods as well. But I had a sizing issue on my second purchase and he refused to help me resolve it. Was only out $10, but still annoyed me because the stickers they sent were about 30% larger than the small calipers on my car would fit.
