Need advice on how to make my car sound better..

My 99 has stock exhaust and it sounds pathetic except at high RPM and I want to change that. I don't need more power just much better sound from idle all the way through. If anyone can recommend a solution or has used mufflers I would be greatful.

Check the fabspeed banner on the sponsor links. There are some sound clips in there of the by-passes. They are around $500.

A simple solution that will give you a bit more sound: Open the air cleaner and remove the muffler which sticks out the small (2" or so) hole in the top.

You'll need to find something to fill this hole. I found some PVC pipe which was designed to connect two sizes of pipe (2" to 2-1/4" maybe...don't have it here to measure). I put the wider end inside the air cleaner with the smaller end protruding through the hole. With a little duct tape I thickened the outer diameter of the PVC until it was a press-fit in the air cleaner hole. Close off the top of this pipe and then re-connect the hose which originally went into the muffler so no unfiltered air gets into the engine.

This is a $2 fix which gives you substantially the same thing as Fabspeed's $225 intake tweak. It adds more sound, particuarly in the upper rev ranges.

Fabspeed exhaust. Will give you deeper, more powerful sound and save a few pounds. I might even have a set available soon.... if I trade in my car I will take off the exhaust and put the stock ones back on. PM me if your interested.

There are a number of exhausts you can buy and they all sound different. Try to find someone in your area that has an aftermarket exhaust you can listen to before you buy. Exhaust sound is very subjective.
