Bypass Pipes ?!?

This may be a stupid question, but I have a question about bypass pipes. I've heard of two different kinds 1) cat bypass 2) muffler bypass.

Now i understand the concept i.e. what is being bypassed, but does anyone know of the difference in sound, HP+, or CEL errors between the two types?

Thanks in advance.....and merry christmas

cat bypass: definetly cell... muffler bypass:no cell don't know too much about hp gains though...but probably very minimal...

any thoughts on loudness/sound???

do you think the hp increase w/ muffler bypass would be equiv to that of an upgraded muffler?!?

I think muffler bypass pipes would be VERY loud. Probably too loud for the street or daily use, but to each his own.
Merry Christmas.

If you want to know loundness/sound, Take off your muffler, that essentially is a muffler bypass.

if you do a cat bypass w/ stock muffler, it's not too bad(still loud), but with the muffler bypass w/ stock cats, it's a bit louder...for me, I think it would just be best to get light weight mufflers and 200 cell cats....you'll probably get some hp...

the reason i ask is because i just installed the Agency Power exhaust that vivid sells and im not overly impressed. I was hoping for something a little "throatier". i did drive around for awhile with the mufflers off. I thought the sound was awesome, but quite a bit too loud. if i could get the same sound as mufflers off but 50% as loud....that would be perfect.!!!

The PSE is louder than the AP mufflers. However they are more expensive. Have you checked out Fabspeed?

I've never had a CEL in my car. If one were to go w/ a cat bypass setup is the cel a major problem...like flashing lights or will it mask any future CEL's that may be important??

I've looked into fabspeed a little, the problem is I live in the middle of michigan and there aren't any porsches for 500 miles, so i cant listen to anyone elses setup...only online videos. Which after listening to a few i thought AP was the way to go.....? I may have to listen to the ghl setup though...do they have any sound bites?

I think Eli has GHL exhausts on his car, maybe he can provide a soundbite. When we do the run to CC next Saturday hopefully we can get some clips for you.

I have the Fabspeed headers & mufflers. Before I installed I thought I will get noticeable sound from the Fabspeed. After the installation and driving it for about 400 miles now I still don't think it's much different than stock, except above 5K rpm the sound a little louder than stock. My cousin has GHL exhaust, we did some comparisons and the result shown that GHL has higher pitch, Fabspeed has lower tone.

I am thinking just for the fun of it maybe I take off the mufflers and hear what it sounds like.

It sounds awesome...just really really really LOUD (harley loud). when i had mine off i took a cruise around town and it turned almost every head, even some people in cars turned to look. lol got quite a few thumbs ups and waves though

You wont like it for long though...its really loud.

I tell you what would be awesome is something like capains call on a boat where you can push a button that switches from muffler bypass to say PSE or even stock!?!?
