stuck in gear?

Just got home from eating some Sushi. On the way home I took off at the
light, went to shift into second gear and there was nothing there. I thought
I was in neutral (thought I missed a shift), so I put it into 3rd gear, went to
go to fourth and realized I was stuck in 3rd.

Im stuck in 3rd gear. I can move the shifter forwards and backwards like
I am going from 3rd to 4th. But it stays in 3rd. I cannot move it right or
left to get into any other gear.

Any one ever have this happen?
What could this be?

thanks
Joe

The shifter uses 2 cables, which are attached with plastic connectors. The one for for/aft movement, like 3rd to 4th may have broken, they wear pretty fast. Or another cable attachment may have come loose, or a cable may have snapped. You might try to go on B&M's web site and download the instructions for installing their in car short shift kit. This will show you how to remove the rear center console so you can see the shift mechanism. You will probably be able to see what is wrong here (unless it is a connection under the car.). When I installed the short shifter in my car the plastic linkage was pretty worn and sloppy. I replaced it with an Agency Power aluminum linkage. If tyou have the console out, now is the time to install a short shift kit, you will love it.

Let me know if this helps.
