Anybody running this setup? Factory GT3 wheels on a 99 996 C4? What do you think? Any issues I should be aware off?

I have Champion RG5's in GT3 sizes and offsets on my '02 C2.

They fit great!

They fit nicely. I had a set on a '99 for a while. I didn't like the way the car handled though. The car really noticed the difference in offset and felt too spread out. Hard to describe; kind of like if you do pushups and your arms are spread out as laterally as possible....

They look great and receive compliments from Porschephiles all the time.

Was it difficult to drive? What do you mean by "spread out?" Was it difficult to drive at speed? Twitchy?

I have 19's that are about the same as GT3 sizes and my handling is better by far than with my stock 18's....Faster turn in, quicker response, better rear grip....not sure what he means by that....

Twitchy is probably a good description. It might be better turn in to newport, maybe i didn't spend enough time adjusting to it.

maybe an alignment would hav fixed that? A significantly wider contact patch would exagerate the effects of any Toe out that may have been dialed in. Twitchy to one guy equals responsive to another.

Now that everyone here got me thinking, it's very likely the case. The car I drove the GT3's with never had its suspension touched, and I hadn't ordered a wheel alignment for it.
Oh well. Good side is the market is strong for these wheels. I broke even when selling them.

Ah yes, if it was a stock car, it would behave quite differently than designed....I have PSS9's so maybe the "twitchy" feeling is controlled by ride height and alignment.

Hey Silver Blue, how much did you pay for the GT3 Wheels?

Interested in what they cost as well. I am really considering a set of GT3 wheels but the weights are putting me off. Seems that for the money I can likely get a much lighter aftermarket wheel. Thoughts?

Front 996 GT3 wheels: 24.91 lbs each. Round number: 25 lbs
Rear 996 GT3 wheels: 27.34 lbs each. Round number: 27.5 lbs

Yeah, if you want the look, it'll cost you....unless you find someone with takeoffs...you can get a lighter wheel, but remember these wheels are wider than normal NB wheels...8.5" fronts and 11" rear vs. 8" fronts and 10" rears. 18" Carrera Lightweights are lighter but again ar not as wide...so it depends on what you want.

PJ, I am on the fence on this issue as well. for the money, aftermarket really does seem to offer more alternatives - ie lighter and wider. I am not sure if staying with OEM is that great or not. Just have not completely decided. The problem is if I get something that I am not completely sold on, I'll regret it when I see something I really want.
