Install EVO SC or buy a 996 TT
I love my car. I've had it almost 4 years. There aren't as many sporty cars in Colorado as CA, FL,TX, AZ etc. At DE's, autocrosses or just on the road this car turns heads, everyone loves the silver mesh in the bumper and I'd do this to a TT if I bought one . . . but I've decided (no thanks to this forum) it's time for more power. I've test driven a few TT's in Denver and the power is intoxicating. I can't imagine what 5-700 hp would be like.
My car is a Orient Red 2001 C2 with 40,000 miles. This car is my daily driver unless it snows, then a BMW 540i. Three years ago I had a Fabspeed exhaust, headers and an EVO intake installed and then Upsolute reprogrammed the ecu. I'll be going to 5-6 DE's and 3-4 autocrosses this summer and have attended 15-20 in the past, even traveling down to Phoenix to spend a day with RennTechV12 and the amazing cars of SECC.
With EVO's current special, I can buy a supercharger for 8,000 plus around 2,000 for installation. If I'm lucky, I could get 40,000 for my car. I found a 2001 Orient Red TT with 33,000 miles for 61,000. Excellent/new condition inside and out. I think the Orient Red color is stunning and it seems 75% of TT's are different shades of silver. If I got 40,000 for my C2 bought the TT for 57-59,000 my net cost would be 17-19,000 plus tax. So my current C2 with a SC for 10k or a TT for 7-10k more . . . I guess I just answered my own question.
What direction would you guys take. Here are some pictures of my current car. Thanks.
Ken

You spelled out everything down to the detail of cost and advantage. My opinion if your budget is not tight and you have the mulas to shelf out then a TT is a better way to go. Aftermarket SC does offer the power close to stock TT. Actually, your 996 with SC can smoke the stock TT any days. But with reliability, convenience, and smog emission SC could give you problems. The current aftermarket SC systs. do not meet smog test.
And if you have high miles engine that could be another problem you will face down the line. Not to mention 996 engine can't handle the xtra HP, the clutch and so on.... A few months ago I was going to install a SC kit until I got the pros. & cons. of it I decided not to go for it. I wait until TT price lower this spring or summer due to current TT owners trade in their cars for the new TT or lease up.
That's my 2 cents opinion.

Buy the TT!!!! It has everything upgraded and better, not to mention a lot stronger motor with dry sump oiling.
With that said, buy a TT and strip the front differential out to save weight and get more ponies to the ground. Get GT3 seats and lighten it up as much as possible as most people hate the heavy feeling of these cars being their biggest complaint.
Supercharging a 11.3 : 1 compression motor is never good and limiting to future hp gains.

tracking an SC is so nice though, it still behaves like an NA and very predictable (very linear power). why be normal, you obviously love you car and Im sure you'll love the TT as well... Im sure youd want to mod the TT as well and thats 3x-4x as more expensive than modding an NA...dont foreget to factor that in.

get the TT... turbos are a must at altitude! Although any forced induction will do, you'll run into less problems with the turbo car than having a supercharger installed what with emissions regulations and the higher compression of the NA motor. BTW where do you get your work done?
The turbo/GT3 block is apparently a lot stronger than the standard C2/4 block. Also, with the turbo you can up the boost and get even more power with little effort. Then if you get really twisted, you can change the turbos and go even higher. The other nice thing is that it will always be a TT whereas the C2 w/ S/C is just that and most people will shy away from it thinking that they could be buying someone else's headaches. OTOH, you could just go for a GT3 and really have fun ...
TT, and don't look back. 10k is a nice deposit on a TT, that is probably faster out of the box than a modded up/sc'd NA car. Plus, nobody keeps a car forever, a sc'd car is a hard sell........ fact.
You can pick up a TT in the low-mid 50's now, even some 993's at that break. Sell yours and take that 10k and you're in a TT that needs nothing, stock.

, can you tell us how you did mesh intakes? was it DIY or did you find them precut?
