Make sure you have spring compressors

I tackled this one with the help of some really great friends. Just make sure you have a spring compressor, and an allen for the taking the brake caliper off the front rotor. When I looked at the DIY from renntech I thought you wouldn’t need to remove the caliper, but I was wrong. It’s a huge allen that you need to loosen the caliper.

You need to take the caliper off so that you can push down on the shock assembly to get it clear of the inner fender, if the caliper is on it will stress and break your brake lines.

Other than that it was a pretty straight forward process. Except my buddy put two washers on the rear shock assembly, making us think we were missing one for the front. I tried to order it, and it took forever. Thankfully I noticed there was an extra rubber stopper in the box, we checked the back and pulled it apart, and guess what, two washers. Doh!!

GL, it was a fun job!

I have an 02, not sure if that makes a difference. We tried like hell, but it looked like it would snap the lines, especially where they connect to the body.

I never used a spring compressor, but I guess it would help to have one. If you have a cab, open it up halfway, then unhook the rear glass part then remove the liner to get to the rear mounts. It took me an hour to figure that one out. Also, an easy way to make sure you have the same height on two coilovers is to run a slotted screwdriver along the threaded part of the shock and count the threads with each click. Oh, and make sure you have a tape measure.

I have both front struts installed and the car on the ground. It was not sitting low enough so I cranked the spring nut upward to compress the lower spring and it sat higher so I turned it all the way down to the last thread and it sits the same...What am I missing here?

I plan to put my 18s on in the mean time while my 19s come in, do I have to get an alignment after I change wheels or does it matter? My friend told me this, but I thought you only get alignment after you change something with the suspension? Can someone clarify please? I also plan to do a corner balancing at the same time as the alignment.
