More Suspension Questions - Suspension for us who don't track

Hi guys/gals,

I know there has been a lot of discussion about this in the past, especially with X74, M030 ROW, and Bilstein Pss9s. I understand that based on adjustability and performance alone, the Bilstein Pss9 has an advantage, can be corner balance, and all around great for tracking.

Here is my question: what if I am putting this on a daily driver that I almost never track? I like my car to feel a bit tighter and less floaty, but do not need anything extreme, nor do I want to spend $2K on the Pss9s (for a 7 year old car!).

For me, the M030 doesn't do enough and the X74 may be too much. In addition, I like my car to be a bit lower ~1" so my car doesn't look like it's got the 4x4 package, but I don't need to slam it to the ground.

I been looking into Bilstein HD or sport shocks, with H&R springs. The whole package adds up to about $1K, the same as the M030 ROW. The setup seems a bit more aggressive than the M030 ROW but not nearly as much as the X74.

If anyone has any thoughts or experience on any of these setup, and comment will be appreciated. Also, I have no idea what the differences in Bilstein HD and sport shocks are, so any info will be helpful too.

I have the Bilstein sport shocks with the H&R springs and I love the ride. I chose this route because I too didn't want to spend the money on the Pss9s. Flojo has the springs and is happy with his setup. There are several turbo owners who have lowered their cars with just the springs and are also very happy. One of the TT guys, Tom Kerr, added just the springs and tracks his car. The Pss9s are one of the best ways to go, but not the only way. It's your call.

From my understanding, the sport shocks are made to go with a shorter springs, whereas the HD are just that. Either will work.

Thanks for the input guys. What is the main difference between the HD and sport? If I just want 1" or so of lowering, which one should i pick?

Roger,

Rule of thumb is that HD's have a longer piston, suitable for stock length springs, and sports are the same damping but with a shorter piston for lowering springs.

I thought you were shopping the car around (?) If so, I wouldn't put a dime into the suspension either way. But if you're commited to the car, then I think the extra $1000-1200 is well spent on the PSS9 kit. You get height and damping adjustability. So, if (when) you go from 18's to 19's, for example, you can tune the suspension to your liking instead of living with an exact combination.

If you want to check out my ride with the PSS9 installed, let me know. We're practically neighbors!

Go PSS9's and stop overthinking it.....You can adjust it all to the way YOU want it height and dampening...The install is LESS expensive than a seperate shock and spring combo, and the resulst are better....if you look around the net difference after install may be $500 or less....so the question is...is it worth it fir $500? YES....

Hey John! Long time no speak. We still need to find something to record the sound of our Tubis. Did you just get your PSS9s installed recently? Let me know when you're free the next few weeks, we should meet up for lunch.

I'm on the fence about selling it, but drives me nuts when people post feelers... so I am selling it, for the right price

Thanks for all of the input guys, I really appreciate it.

Ok, I just saw for sale a 2005 997 GT3 suspension. I rode in a GT3 before and really like the way the car handles. My question is that besides for the 4 coilovers, what other parts will I need to have the coilovers installed on my 2000 996 C2?

Good point, I may hold off on the list of upgrades I want to do until I really know what I will end up doing.

When did you get Pss9 installed on your car?
