Got to drive a Twin Turbo today

All:

I have been driving my 99 C2 since December and love it. I got to drive a TT today (althought the sales puke made me go thru an area where 3rd. gear was unatainable). I was able to push it to 3rd once

Here are my un scientific opinion. It felt heavier than the C2 for sure. It tracks better in a corner. The throttle response was differnt for sure. The C2 feels more "raw". The TT is an awsome car for sure. I wish I could have taken it for a bit more of a ride. It had a bunch more push you in the seat feeling (as you would expect). The throttle run up in first gear was much quicker, and suprising.

Overall a great experience just to short of a drive........

Much quicker and more nimble. My buddy Mike was with me (he drives a highly modified e39) and he liked the umph but not the storage. His exact words were "Where do I put the golf clubs". He didn't take my "Roof Rack" suggestion

The thing that bugs me about BMW is none of the new stuff gets to your heart. We went and wandered the BMW lot as well and the cars are boring copies of other stuff out there. I remember when you would walk a BMW lot and oggle and drool over M5's and M3's and even 7 series sports. No longer with the X3 subabru forrester and the 5 series grand prix).

Oh well off my soap box.

I might sell my last BMW a 330cic ACSchnitzer and my C2 and step up to a TT. Know anyone looking for a BMW convertible

Tim,

Same here! After 5 BMW from the past, specially 3 of them were same chassis and color, definitely need to move on to another brand like porsche. The best year for BMW was 2001, e46 m3, e39 m5, and 740i sport.......till the Bangle took over.....puke!

Around town in stop and go, the Turbo feels like a C2 hauling 3 extra adults - lumbering. Once the road opens up though....yeeehaaaaa

A-Men.

Had a new 545i SMG for a week. Broker down within the first 50 miles and was in the shop for a week. Ended up giving the car back. i-drive sucks...like going back to a rotary phone. If they want to get rid of buttons, it should be touch screen i.e. Lexus.

Get at TT on the open road, open it up, and you'll never look back. But be prepared for disappointment when you try and find something better....you'll have to look to Enzo, CGT territory.

you considered a GT2 which sheds the lbs and gives you back the steering you are used to with the power you aren't?

you considered supercharging your C2 instead so you can keep the lightweight without the AWD? i gotta think the SC would run you about 25% of the trade diff with tax you're looking at.

btw, any intercooled forced air solution should make a large difference to you given your altitude. and yep, the wide body is beautiful

Tim, I have a 00 996 Cab and have been itching for a TT upgrade. I had a chance to drive an 01 TT at Beverly Hills Porsche (literally only just around a few blocks with a very little opportunity to get on it) My first impressions were somewhat disappointing. I thought I would be just drooling afterwards but I was just not that impressed (but again a very short drive) But reading this forum has convinced me that there is so much more to the TT that I have not even gotten close to experiencing. I still love the 993 TT and love the air cooled engine note and the rear wide stance of the 993 turbos. I have never driven a 993TT but I have read in this forum that some of them find the 993TT to be the best car and some have mentioned the 996TT have really refined the old 993TT's to be a much better driving cars. I am torn between 993TT or 01-02 996TT or even just give few more years for a 997TT!! I think I will enjoy the open air drive through the summer season and keep my eyes open for a TT.

you missed the very best thing about the TT - the AWESOME power. however, i was extremely disappointed with the rest of the car (ie: the much more numb AWD more boosted steering feeling relative to the C2 and the weight which I most def felt). unlike your experience, a guy i know was kind enough to let me push his car through my favorite twisties and outside of the absolute adrenaline rush in a straight line, i was oh so bored in the corners. maybe if you push it near the limit there is more communication or excitement, but the cornering limit for the TT is something few sane people will ever remotely approach on the street (or mountain road). the C2 on the other hand will allow you to experience more at considerably safer though still dangerous road (mountain) speeds.
