Misha - My 996 C2 to 997 Turbo body conversion is finally done !
For those of you who did not see the pictures on 996Turbo/GT2 board.
My new GTM wing that is on the car is now available for your 996 C2 and C4S coupe or cab.
After nearly a year my car is finally done …. almost done.
A year ago before even the first 997 Turbo was on the US streets I thought that it would be fun project to convert narrow body of my black 996 C2 into nice wide body of a beautiful new 997 Turbo.
Body shop promised me that they can do 996 to 997TT metal conversion in 6-8 weeks but it turned out to be 10-11 months instead.
Needless to say it was not fun process during this 11 months and it end up costing me lots of frustration and much more money than I originally planed.
996 and 997 look very similar but every single body panel on this two cars is different enough that everything had to be cut and customized to fit. Far from bolting on and welding on parts from 997 to 996 body.
All body panels on my car except the roof and the doors were changed. Rear quarter panels, rocker panels and hood are OEM factory steel. Front fenders, bumpers and wing are made from carbon fiber.
It was first 996 to 997 Turbo conversion for them and I believe it is the first of its kind in US.
At the end it took much longer than I expected it cost me much more than I expected but final result is not bad.
I just want to say big THANKS to Dan and his crew at SPEED GALLERY who did wiring, suspension and many many other things that were necessary to be done after the car was converted …you guys are THE BEST !
Also big THANKS to Vince @ iForged who made me this custom wheels with crazy yellow lip that turned out exactly as I wanted them … great job Vince !
Car has my new 997 GTM wing and GTM front bumper.
In the next few weeks it will be completed with pair of 997 GTM side skirts and small change on the bottom of the GTM front bumper, also GT3 vent will be added to the bumper as you can see on one of the pictures below.
Here are few pictures, I will post more when I install GTM side skirts and modified GTM front bumper.
