New C4S

Just got off the phone with a dealership and he told me that they dont really deal on new C4Ss because the market for them is so strong. Is that true? he also said the most they can discount is about $1,000-$2,000.

Tell him he's fool of dodo and take a look at the dealer's invoice. What year is it too? If it's a 2003, you can really lower it down because he's got to sell it.

If they say 1-2k over the phone, then I would take that to mean at least triple or quadruple that discount if you are there with money/financing in hand.

On the East Coast, with calls to some out of town dealers and visits to many New York and New Jersey dealers, the best I could do was $4,000 with maybe another $1,000 available on final negotiation. At these prices I decided to wait for a 997.

Just bought a '04 C4S

Best I could do was about 4K off of a 93.5 K car. The argument is that they are not replacing the C4S for a few years and they are holding prices better than 996 C2's.

But who knows with Porsche, maybe they'll slip the 350hp engine from the 997 into the 996 C4S and sell it that way for the next couple years. Then, waiting would have made sense.

It also depends if they have the car on the lot or you are ordering one to spec... obviously there is less incentive for the dealer to give you a steep discount on a car they have to order.

If I didn't have a new Z4 to play with over the summer I would have been more tempted to go with the 996 C4S. "Common wisdom" is the new C4/C4S will be the second car introduced within a year of the C2. If the awd Carrera isn't released in the fall of 05, I will get a C2.

Thats funny, Back in 02 when the C4S came out, I was offered a new one with a $88k MSRP for $4k discount off list.

My dealer in RI had a leftover 03 C4S with crazy options (large wood package, etc.) that was discounted to reflect how little those options are worth ($95K car offered for $83K). All of the other C4S coupes were offered at $2-3K off list. They sell too well to discount more.

You can get a $102K C4S cab for $92K from them. The C4S is just too pricey and is being heavily discounted.

Here's what you need to do:
go to Kelly Blue Book online and look at what the retail, private party values, retail, trade in, etc... are
Then you need to go to E-Bay-they sell new and used there and you can look at the "buy it now" price and start from there.
By this time you will have a good feel for what you should pay.
Then offer under whatever you see.
