GT3 Seats

Does installing the GT3 Style track seats disable the air bags (drive/passenger). I've been looking at some on EBay

Anyone buy these? Opinions good/bad?

Thanks Craig

these have been discussed before, concesus is that they are not FIA certified and dont know how they'll stand up in an accident or a crash.

im not %100 sure but I believe the enable/disable for airbags are from the motion sensors. The seats will not disable the bags

Ok thanks Redridge, so if a seat isn't FIA certified do you know if that is unacceptable for for DE event with the new changes coming for 2008? I am looking to put in the the 5 point harness and roll bar so the seats naturally had to change as well, just out doing shopping early.

I am not sure they will know if they are real GT3 seats or knockoffs so they will probably pass inspection but what people are afraid of is if you are in an accident and your seat does not hold up, it can be very dangerous if not deadly. Most people dont wanna put their lives in danger to save a buck on seats.

I dont think there any rules like that I know of...I know that there are requirements for harnessses and safety equipment. As far as the seats, it is mandatory for de to have these types of seats for 5-6 point harness. Im sure you can get away with it... its more of the off road situations thats questionable.

I don't understand this reasoning. Aren't the seatbelts or harness attached to the car - floor, frame, roll bar - but NOT the seat? In an mpact the belts should absorbe all of the shock and pass it on to the attachements, no? I thought the seat was just to keep you from sliding around.

someone should just suck it up and get in an accident with them to see how they hold up......

What about in a roll when the roof collapses down and the top of the seat is the only thing keeping your kneck straight?

if your rear end hits a wall (or get rear ended), the only thing keeping you in place is the backrest. The seatbelts are designed to keep your body from moving forward. The seats keeps your body from moving backwards. If your seats are weak, it can split in half along you with it...

its also really amazing when you see a seat snap in half from massive rotational g-loading... oh yea, you are also IN THE SEAT. i have seen partial cracking in QUALITY seats so i wouldnt risk it in anything less

All those things are designed with the seats strength on mind....if you have a weak seat then the safety of all those other devices is thrown out the window...the idea of a harness is to hold you into the seat, but if the seat breaks then you are being thrown around almost as if you didnt have a seat belt on....would you wanna roll around a car with roll bars? NO....even a SMALL accident with someone hitting a roll bar is deadly. Those seats MIGHT hold up and they MIGHT not.....the fact that they have not been crash tested and others have found them more flimsy then the actual Porsche GT3 seat makes people uneasy about using them.
