C2 or C4 HMMMM?

I am looking at an 00' C2 or an 01 C4. I had a 96' C4S should never have sold. Any input on 996's 2 vs 4 Greatly appreciate input.
Cheers
Doug

IMHO you wont be happy with the C2 if you owed a C4 before, the C4 car just tracks better.....I have a 01 C4 a little biased I guess.

Oh boy....today we are just going at it arent we? Yes a C2 is lighter, but if you at all expect to be in the rain the maybe 4 days a year it rains, consider the C4....they drive very differently, I preferred the AWD solidness, it feels more planted, and you are familiar with them since you had a C4S...drive them both and buy the one you like the best...I think it will come down to which is better optioned and in better condition, not which one is a C2 or C4....Thats what it was for me....I skipped a bare 02 C2 coupe for a loaded 99 C4 cab at $20k less....I dont track it and its plenty fast, plus I can drop the top if I want....plus I used that 20k for mod money! Both are great cars so buy the one you like best and enjoy it....why not another C4S? I have seen dealer CPO's under 50k for C4S's.....not bad.

Rain in Southern California???

Thanks for the input.. C4S too much $$ now
cars are within $1000. of each other and same miles. the 2000 has a porsche warranty. I will drive them both. the 01' C4 is better optioned.
Rain in Southern California??? I must have missed that this year!

Had them both. Liked the C2 much better. Better steering feel, more nimble and far more fun on track. Hated AWD on track b/c it undsteered like crazy and was not as intuitive. Though the C4S to C2 transition quickly led to a 996 GT3, then to. . . . slippery slope.

we should grab a bite to eat sometime in your beach area as a peace omen haha talking shop is always fun for me

i've been behind the seat of my first porsche for about 1000 miles now.

for the first time i took a freeway sweeper that goes left-right-left with elevation change aggressively. i've taken this sweeper at speed in my s2000 supercharged with wide wheels/tires as well as the E46 M3 with nice coilovers and sticky tires.

i took it today with the c4s (my first awd vehicle) and i can most definitely feel the difference in the dynamics of the car.

the c4s, mind you, has the widest tires/wheels i've ever put on a car of mine (10.5" for the s2000 w/ ground controls, 10" for the m3 with tc klines, and now 12" for the 911 w/ pss9s).

-awd on the c4s grips differently. you can feel the car just squat in the back and feel the front grip thru the steering wheel and claw at the asphalt as if it were being guided on rails.

-the m3 you can feel ,and naturally so squat, in the back and stick with a bit of oversteer tendencies - more of a dancing on your feet type deal than the oak trunk feel of the c4s

-the s2000 was straight flickable and light on its feet with similarties to the m3 on the oversteer bit both with excellent LSDs

i can't say i like one over the other more yet as i need more seat time in the c4s to decide, but i will say i feel safer in the awd car, but i can say it's not as fun as rwd, though that's hair splitting. each of the cars i've owned show its talents in diff ways and i appreciate them each for what they offer. i have a feeling that i'll end up with some sort of rwd next, but it likely won't be a porsche. i absolutely love the looks of the 996 c4s so i just HAD to get one over a 996 turbo and 997 carrera S. subjective + objective = overall value/attraction to me.

my guess is i'll like both rwd and awd for its own unique merits as nothing in life is ever really black or white.

so bottom line, there is a HUGE diff in driving dynamics so to say pick one based on better option, better conditioned is, imo, not the best advice. drive both 2 and 4 and pick which one u like better dynamically and then within that drivetrain pick the best condition, best whatever for you.

theres a reason why the TT are awd...point and shoot, very stable, confidence inspiring... Walter Rhoule (sp?), preffered the c4 over c2, thats saying something.

I found that with the right alignment and suspension mods, all the understeer is gone in the C4....for some reason Porsche left more understeer in that car than others...they fixed it in the 997....stock the C4's are just as nimble and turn in just as good as the C2's, if not better....
