Wierd alarm remote issue today-

I just got back from vacation, left my pcar in the garage w/ alarm on for 9 days.

Went out to unlock it this morning and the key remote would not work, car would not respond to it.
I had to open the door with the key manually (setting off the alarm in the process), and then when I pressed the key remote it turned off the alarm just fine. I then re-locked and unlocked the car several times with the remote and it worked fine.

battery in remote is fine
car battery is fine

very bizzare- any thoughts on why the car was ignoring the remote initally?

interesting- maybe there is some built-in 'lock out' interval if the car sits for x number of days?

I believe there is. I can't find the post, but someone had mentioned something like 4 days of inactivity and the car locks up and you can't use the remote, but must enter via the key.

It happened to me as well.

If the alarm has been set for 5 days continuously, it goes into "hibernation" to conserve battery power. You would then have to manually unlock your door with the key, insert the key in the ignition, and it resets and activates again.

Same issue here with me. The car doesn't necessarily have to be hibernating for more than 5 days for this to happen though. It happens occassionally even after a long ride.

wow- that fact is not in the owner's manual... lol

So, if it is in 'conservation' mode and I use the key to manually unlock the door, is the alarm supposed to go off????? Mine did...
But, when the alarm went off I could then use the remote to turn off the alarm and everything was cool. frwkinggg annoying tho!

That fact IS in the owner's manual my friend...you just missed that part!

I'm not sure of the alarm going off when unlocking with the key, it shouldn't.

Cosmos- I stand corrected

So yeah, the alarm went off when I opened the door with the key manually. I did find that quite odd.

p0rsch3: Looks like it's not weird at all that the alarm went off!
Damn, it took me 15 mins to look up the manual just for you,
you owe me a BEER!

The remote-control standby function switches off after 5 days

If the vehicle is not started or unlocked with the remote control within five days,

the remote control standby function is switched off (to prevent discharging of the vehicle battery).

1. In this case, unlock the driver's door with the key at the door lock.
Leave the door closed in order to prevent the alarm system from being triggered.

2. Press button 1 on the remote control.

The remote control is now activated again.

LMAO- Man, I feel bad now b/c I went and read that part in the manual... I should have mentioned that in my last post. My mistake was I opened the door after unlocking it with the key, which triggered the alarm (still think that is an odd design tho).

Thanks for taking the time to post the info from the manual- If you're ever out in West LA first BEER is on me.
