Driving a motor vehicle with the intent to cause exceessive noise

Court is in an hour for the citation of "Driving a motor vehicle in manner intended to cause excessive noise".

Scenerio...I was debating the muffler bypass pipes and dropped the stock cans off. I did a hack job with the $5 elbow pipes from PepBoys and they only stayed on the car til I hit 80mph and they fell out. So now I am driving with an offensive sputter out of the cats and honestly...it was louder than you can imagine even under 2000RPM. I was in MD, with PA plates, saw the cop a few cars back. Pulled off the line without spinning wheels or going crazy, got to 40mph and cruised from there. He lit me up and spent 20 minutes in his car trying to find something to write me up for.

Its a moving violation so Im going to show up and fight it, but who is he to cite me for my "intent". Websters defines intent as doing something on purpose.

Whatever, ill post my results in a few hours. Hopefully I can make a mockery of our legal system again.

good luck, in my experience with our legal system involving motor matters, we pretty much live in a dictatorship. Those judges think of themselves as god and will do whatever they damn well feel like to make the state money and make themselves feel powerful.

I think your going to lose, your intent was pretty much formed when you removed the mufflers...I think he has you cold! JMHO

Sweet success... Amazingly the judge agreed with me...he had no evidence other than his statement "you took off and ran throught the gears as fast as you could...blah blah blah making noise". I stated "I could have run the gears faster, but in regards to the citation at hand, my intent in removing the mufflers was for increased performance" and that without evidence of my intent, he should dismiss the case. Judgement for me.

Saved $70...probably not worth the time out of work.

My favorite part (especially with a win) Im sure most of you have gone through was when the officer reads his statement and says "Porsche"...the rest of the courtroom gives you the "he deserved it look and sigh".
