Keith- You da man! I'm going to attempt that this weekend as well. Post some pics and any heads-up you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I was thinking, it looks like the AC controls trim can be shaved down a bit to fit the top slot on the lower console. I think a bottom slot pocket can be ordered, but not sure.. either that or I will be cutting up the cassette holder trim to fab a new pocket trim. What direction are you thinking of going in?

I am using my existing bottom level pocket...I cut out some of the frame and modified the back housing of the AC shell

So I confirmed with Ric Knab over at Suncoast Porsche that a pocket is in fact available for the lower console / lower slot. Should make things easier

A pocket has always been available for the lower slot...I have 2 of them right now.

The problem is that the AC unit doesnt fit in the lower consoles upper slot.

Arnee- This is the info I have that should cover 01-03 996

Speed Sense wire is gray/pink and is either in the wire harness at the radio or at the alarm/door lock module.
Notes: The alarm/door lock module should be under the driver seat.

I have a Porsche wiring diagram for the MY2002 (non MOST) Bose system. If anyone wants it PM me w/ your email address, the pdf is too large to upload here (2mb).

Keith- what do you do with the alarm hookup wire for the factory radio, attach to ground or attach to chassis on the kenwood unit??

The other reason, if it is important to you, is the Nav supposedly works very well and has a great UI (Garmin).

Downside on the 7100 is no customizeable backgrounds as far as i know-
The 7019 does so as well.....All Kenwood Nav uses Garmin, I have the KNA G510 which is the same Nav in an external module. It is a GREAT Nav system...

agreed- I looked at several different brands of double-din units and found the Kenwood 7xxx series to have the best features. I only chose the 7100 since it is one of the only units where the GPS is built-in to the main double-din unit and does not require an external brain. I priced out the separate units (double-din plus adding on the optional gps brain) and it came out to be more expensive by a few hundred dollars than buying the 7100.

True, but the downside is that when they do major upgrades to the NAV, you cannot just buy the NAV module and upgrade, you have to buy a complete head unit...The current Nav system is the 5th generation, the 1st with Garmin...

yeah, I guess we'll see what happens on that- supposedly the NAV system is completely upgradeable via the SD card slot, but again we'll see....
