Seat upgrade?

I'm getting my sport seat replaced by the dealer. Prior to this I was thinking of upgrading to GT3's. Does anybody think the dealer will do this if I pay the difference? I see sets selling for $2500ish. I haven't checked to see what the price differentiation is between the two. Any imput? Thanks

Given the seats are not US street legal and Porsche dealers don't sell them, probably not.

I was under the impression they did sell them. A while back on E-bay a dealer was selling them.

GT3 seats are in the PET and are available at Porsche dealers (unless you get a dealer that for some odd reason does not want to sell you a pair). However, I doubt you will find a dealer to sell them for much less that $3,000 set. There are a number of sources for sets in the $2.7 - $3k per set range. A source close to you might be unitah (do a search - he posted a sale on these recently). Otherwise FA out of Fl would be a good source.

I do not know if they are "street legal" in the USA, and if they are not, then a dealer might not want to install for liablity reasons, but my dealer had no problem with the idea of installing mine for me.

I imagine sport seats (new, from a dealer) cost over $3,000 each (but I am just guessing). I think the GT3 seats "list" for around $2,000 each?

Even if I could get one and pay the grand difference, it would still be cheaper...

How can the GT3 seats not be street legal if you can order them in the car from the factory.

I installed a GT3 seat in my 02 C2 (I will send a photo when I figure out how to do it), and have now installed a passenger GT seat as well. The seats and fire bracket came from Akkurat www.AkkuratPGI.com. I went with grey leather in a black interior, Seal Gray car. Red 6pt belts will be TeamTech, and roll bar is a DAS from www.dassport.com http://cdoc.com/home.asp. Pedals and much carbon fiber (not yet installed) are from Brandywine www.brandywineporsche.com.

Carl sounds very close to my car. Why didn't you go with the Porsche roll bar?

I have a '03 Seal Grey with black interior. I went with the black leather GT3 seats, the Porsche Tequipment roll/harness bar, the porsche anti sub belt member for my seat and a Brey Krause anti sub belt member and fire extinguisher braket. Also Red 6 point 3" harness with sewn in pads from DEIST.

because you can't order them in the car from the factory for U.S. cars. just call your dealer and see if you can order a GT2 or GT3 with GT3 seats. you can't.

That sucks, so should I be worried about issues with the police?

True, but I think most (if not all) dealers will happily sell & install a set for you.

Not to be argumentative (really), but I am curious about the "street legal" term. I understand that Porsche does not make cars for sale in the USA with GT3 seats from the factory, but I do not know that means they are not "street legal".

I suggest that just because a factory does not offer a particular collection of parts together does not render those parts illegal for use. However, if the G-Man has standards covering seats (and there may be), and requiring all seats used on the "street" to be tested, certified, etc. then your "street legal" statement would be valid.
