FINISHED Kenwood DVD/NAV install and AC control mod- Pics and some DIY stuff
Hey guys,
I finished my Kenwood double din the other day. I grounded the DVD wire to a different ground other than the e-brake. I haven't been able to see if that is all I needed to do. I hope that's all!!! The install took some time. But, I took my sweet ole time on it. I didn't want to rush it and break something that would cost me a tone of money. I used Kenwood DVX7160 with reverse camera, bluetooth, navi etc. Amp wise I used a alpine pdx5. This amp is amazing!!! Better than the JL audio in my opinion. It's a bit more money but the sound quality is worth the extra money. I got my kit off of ebay. Came with everything I needed. Here is a pic I have of it.

Help!!!
Just completed the installation of pioneer z120bt HU with the help of Loi and posts from this forum. Things went very well and looks like music, nav, etc are working. Now come the bad part.....The interior lights are on all the time (door lights). I can turn off the reading lights with off switch position. But it will not turn off in the door open/close position. Something I missed during the wiring connections.
Many thanks

Did you plug the car's illumination wire into a power source from the Pioneer unit? (...maybe the remote ON or Antennae power?)
To check... turn on your new radio, then turn on the car headlights, the display on the radio should change - if it doesn't - the illumination wire is connected incorrectly.

Guys, been awhile since this thread has been added to. I am in the middle of this install of a Kenwood DNX 9980 and have both the GPS and Sirius bubble that I need to mount... not room for both in the old location of my GPS bubble on the dash.
Any ideas as where to put whatever antenna I don't put in the old location... in the middle of this one now.
Thanks,
Bryan

How large is the sirius antenna? If you have enough cable on it, perhaps route it up behind the driver side windshield pillar, around the top of the windshield (tuck cable in behind edge of headliner), and place antenna on glass just forward of the roof console. Or, behind the roof console- but the roof sheetmetal might block the signal.
You might even try tucking it behind the upper part or lower part of the driver side windshield pillar plastic cover, it may still pick up enough reception. Give that a try first.

Ok, I was able to mount the Sirius antenna where the old GPS was located. Then, I mounted the GPS antenna for the Kenwood unit just under the plastic shroud by the wiper blades, If you reach under from the passenger side by the cabin filter angling towards the center of the car there is a metal plate that I was able to mount it on... only traveling through that plastic shroud so I should be good. If it works it will be a very clean install.
I was told the GPS antenna could travel through more things than the Sirius one... hopefully everything is a success

Bryan

Just installed a Kenwood DNX6990 into my 2000 Cab. This was my first attempt at installing a car stereo ever, and I have to say it wasn't too bad. Took about 4-5 hours total, but I think it looks pretty good
. I have to say ripping the dash apart was pretty terrifying at first, but it's a relatively easy mod once you get into it, and what you gain makes it totally worth it.

I have the Kenwood DV7100 w/Nav & iPod installed but need to make a trim piece to go around the outside, I used the trim piece that came with the unit and I have a gap that drives me crazy.
Ah, you didn't get the kit from Loi at Euromotorspeed on EBay. His kit includes the trim piece that fits perfectly - no gaps. Definitely worth the cost to make it perfect.
Thanks for the information. Just purchased one from them.
Here is my install of AVIC BT-120 in a 99 C2 Cab. Thanks for the inspiration,Home made trim WIP. Spoiler switch mod and garage door mod.New wood trim also WIP.

Thanks,It's not the home link mod,I dissected the mini opener mounted it by the map lights and soldered the leads to the board(seen in the picture clipped on the visor). while the a pillar trim was off I did the antenna mod to get more range out of the key transmitter. Don't see any improvement. Also fixed the key(didn't transmit) with a felt circle under the battery.
