Fair Price for this HOT car ;) ?

Found a bright red 996 for my wife from a private party but didn't know what a fair number would be.

2003 996 with 17K miles
tiptronic
red/tan
minimal options except factory GT3 aero kit put on after delivery
appears right fron quarter panel has been painted as there is a masking tape line on the inner edge underneath the front bonnet but does not appear that that the panel has been removed - maybe to repair a scratch?
need to replace ebarke handle as it has a spot on it that the "paint" has been worn off

didn't run a carfax but owner states he ran one last october and it was clean

thanks for any guidance

Run a carfax before purchasing as well as send it to a local Porsche dealer to give a thumbs up or down.

if the ppi and carfax are clean...that's a $47,000 worth of 996. if it were a 6-speed, then $50,000

I'd actually put it at $45k tops private party unless it has a transferable CPO or other warranty, and then maybe $47k.

That same car at a dealer would probably be listed at $52k-55k, maybe even $60k at some of the dealers.

I bought my nearly perfect 2003 C2 seal grey coupe with 7,800 miles on March 1, 2007 (3 months ago) with PSM and various trim (painted bumperettes, egg-yolk removal, rocker panels) for $50k.

i bought my 2003 c2 with 37k miles and a little warranty still left for $44,000. similar condition and more miles, but stickshift and no bodywork. mine was bought in april 25, 2007.

in the dealer, mine would've been about $48,000. they had a 2003 c2 with aero package, cPO, and 11k miles which they sold for $52,000.

You can check it on carfax, but it really doesn't mean squat. Take it to a very reputable body shop or ask someone from the body shop to accompany you for a small fee. Also taking it to a dealer mechanic wouldnt hurt.
Dont trust carfax alone.

i figure i'd get a carfax just to make sure nothing is out there but i need to somehow get it checked. problem is I live 1200 miles away and the guy offered to take it to his "bud" at the local dealer but evidently they cannot comment upon bodywork or paint condition - only mechanical porsche stuff.

anybody know a body shop in the Pompano Beach area that could help me out?

thanks

What he said. Call around a high end dealer in the area and ask the service dept where they take their cars, take it there for inspection. MB, BMW....they'll all know if it's been repaired.

I recently bought a car from FL. I live in MI. I had the owner take it to Champion Porsche in Pompano for a PPI. It was $165. Had a nice talk with Doug down there, and he gave me a good feeling about the car. For $165, it was worth it. Talk to Doug at Champion beforehand, and let him know about your concerns. He should be able to tell you about any bodywork.

Wow! that's a great price for a VIRGIN C2. You've enjoy this car more in the last 3 months then the previous owner in the last 4 years. I guess I'll get to see it soon.
