What kind of oil to use for manual transmission?

I am about to change out my manual transmission oil. What oil do you recommend for a 99 996? I use to use redline or royal purple ATF for my manual transmission. Would any of those be ok for a 996?

I recently used 2.5 L of Castrol's full synthetic 75W90 in my 2000 C4's 6sp. I was just doing routine fluid change, but noticed that shifting seemed smoother following the change.

PS - The front Diff held 1.54 L and I used the same lubricant as in the tranny.

You need to use a gear lube that is compatable with a LSD or use an additive or you will have problems with slippage. I personally use the Shell Transaxle you can get for about $30/liter at Porsche. Smooth as silk.

I know a lot of porsche people that swear by Swepco 201. Anyone here use that? I'm about to change my oil and have been looking into this.

I have just bought 4 L of Royal Purple 75-90 Gear Oil, will be changing this week, and I'll get back with if I feel any changes. I used Royal purple in my M5 and it was great!
