potentially a SCAM: Ebay 996 engine for sale--beware!!!

This is the link to the listing at ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...7544863&rd=1,1

if the link doent work, it's item # 150137544863

i smell something fishy, read this guy's reply below, when i asked him if i can stop by and inspect the engine before i place my bid, the guy didnt reply. i dont really need an engine but i was just curious.

my message to the seller:

1) Would you be able to provide a notarized statement stating that this is not a stolen motor?

2) Can you provide the VIN # of the car the engine was taken from?

thanks

his reply.

Hi,
Thank you for your email.
I provide 60 days warranty on all the motors I sell.
You will get the complete Porsche 02 996 Carrera 911 3.6 motor FULL SWAP with everything you need to install it to your car.The swap is fully tested and is in excellent condition. All the papers are included, the milage is 10000 miles, the year is 2002 .The tranny is LSD.Wiring harness,ECU,cables, axels, hoses, mounts etc are included.
Actually I have 2 more same swaps available for the immediate sale so you do not have to bid on ebay, you can just buy it immediatelly from me.I will accept 5100 USD total including shipping for the motor. Two other engines are located in Europe and will be shipped to the customers from there. The story is that I have opened a store in Ukraine nearly a year ago and wanted to make some money. But it was not a good idea and I have big troubles with that store right now.So I am closing it and have to pay some debts and fees to the government. That is why I need each dollar I have to send it to my partner in Ukraine so he can pay our debts. You can make payment to my partner in Europe dirrectly and the shipping will be iniciated from Ukraine. In case you buy the motor from Ukraine , my partner will prepare and ship you the engine within a day.Anyway I planed to ship all the motors back to the US and my partner have already prepared everything for the delivery and moved the motors to the shipping company's store. Now the only thing the shipper needs to start the delivery is buyer's shipping info. The shipping will take 7 days so it is no longer than the shipping between states in the US.
The swaps from Europe are ABSOLUTELLY THE SAME, WITH SAME SPECS, and their milage is 8500 and 11000 miles.
And the most pleasant thing for the buyer is a discount which I offer to every customer who buy the motor from my European store and make payment dirrectly to my partner. In this case I will accept 3900 USD total including shipping for the swapI need funds ASAP and if my partner do not make payments to the bank next week I will have serious financial problems. It is really a good price for this engine so do not loose such a nice opportunity.

Please email me asap if you are interested so I can reserve one swap for you.

Thank you,
George

p.s. I also have complete Porsche 97 993 3.6 Twin Turbo motor swap and I can sell it to you at 3500 USD shipped from Europe(I really need money asap to pay some debts to European bank so I can be able to close the store in Ukraine)

BTW, a 97 993tt engine for 3.5k is a steal. I dont have a 993tt but if it's real i'll buy it and place it in the middle of my living room as a decorative item . anyways, this guy is registered in 2001 and he's got 100% positive feedback. Maybe the account has been hijacked? It could be a legit listing but whoever wins the item should check it out first before making the payment. Someone should post this at rennlist as well to warn other fellow enthusiasts.

Eastern European countries such as Ukraine, etc. are the final destinations for cars stolen in Western Europe. They usually sell them domestically at low prices and without papers. The other option is to dismantle them and sell spare parts (as probably happened in this case...)

Why would he go into such length explaining himself unless he's trying to hide something, doubt it's a dismantling operation, it's a scam IMO.

2002's didn't have an LSD offered, unless that is something they only have in Europe. Sounds fishy to me too.

Nah, it is a regular ebay scam. You send them the money and get nothing.

Total fraud scam- Someone's good ebay account got hijacked and is being abused. If you want to be a pal, just report it to ebay along with the auction number.
It is SO easy for average folks to get their ebay account hijacked with the mass amounts of very legitimate-looking phishing emails these days, disguised as coming from ebay or paypal (message from a member, ebay accounting department, etc etc..).

usually, if it's too good to be true, it is just that.

Probably a scam. Asked the seller if I can pick up, he said he must ship only.

Now that's a red flag... who wouldn't want to have a fellow P-car driver come by to save on freight?......

Did anyone notice his user name?
"SS Wolf's Lair" and the huge Swastika pictured in his profile?
http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/sswolfslair/

I don't think I would buy from him it were the real deal.
