996 cooling question

hey guys...

my garage gets really hot during the day. it has no A/C vent and is facing the sunny side most of the day.

when i come home from work, i can hear the engine fan when the car is in the garage. my questions are these:

- would it be better if i leave garage door open or slightly open to air out hot air

- would it be better if leave the engine bay cover open? would fan still go on with cover open?

thanks...

I certainly am not responding from an engineering perspective however, I will tell you that when I park my car in the garage at the end of a day of driving, I frequently leave the lid open and the garage door open as this helps to cool the engine down. When I have not done this, the garage stays warm well into the night and I don't want the air conditioner in my house working that much harder (the garage is not AC'ed but the fact that it is so hot in the garage versus not so hot does have some effect on the garage radiating heat into the house.)

If you can, open the garage door.
If you cant, thats fine too.
I dont think its a big diff to an engine when its off!

if you open the hatch the fan will quit...there are two schools of thought on this but those who know more than I say that unless there is a pretty strong breeze it is better to leave the lid closed and let the fan exhaust the hot air in the engine compartment...leaving the garage door cracked open will help ventilate the area if there is another exit like a side door that you can open to create a draft...

Your fan will run without the key in the ingnition?
I did not look at this specifically, but if i recall, that fan starts only once I turn the ignition key on my car.

that fan is meant to evacuate heat from the engine compartment and will run if the compartment temp reaches a certain level regardless if the key is present, car is locked...etc
