Looking for a 02+ 996 --What's a good deal?
I found a MB dealership in Springfield,IL that has a couple low mile cars. red 2000 C2 Cab with 3000 miles, $45.900 and a seal grey 2002 C2 cab with 8000 miles, $53,900. 1-866-810-3705.
The prices of our cars have dropped a lot lately... an 02 C2 with around 40kmiles can be had in the mid-low 30s... my local Porsche Dealer[very expensive] had a 02 c2 with 26k miles for $37.9k... last week I went to an auction and saw an 02 cabrio 6sp with 48k miles go for $29.9k.. the 03s are going for mid-high 30's.. if your budget is $40k you should be able to get a VERY nice 996
Its the same motor...........The C4 is not near as fun as a C2 for me anyways. As for holding their value I have to disagree with that as well, all 996's are droping in value like a stone.
I’m almost prepared to sell my 02 C4 Cab. I’ve researched the market both local (NYC/Tri-State Area) and the rest of the country, and in my neck of the woods this car is ‘retailing’ for $45 to $48 with all options in this condition/low-miles. It’s Black on Black, Winter Package, AM/FM/CD & 6 Disk Changer, Hard Top (Including Electric Ceiling Mount Lift Kit), 6 Speed, P-Crests in Head Rest, Colored Center Caps on ‘Technology’ “18’s.
2nd Owner, 38000 miles, Accident Free, Climate Controlled Garage, Brand New Rear tires and 4 Whl Algn (Done 12/08/07). Good meat on Fronts.
Meticulously maintained by Dealer – (Dealer is Paul Miller Porsche, who’s son is Porsche GT Series Driver Bryce Miller), but there really wasn’t anything more than general maintenance. New clutch and replaced the RMS at the same time (spring 07), so this costly problem is a non-issue.
Repainted the front bumper, (road rash a little too obnoxious and I won’t do clear bra – I’ll stand on a Bible, swear on my Mother’s Grave that it wasn’t hit and just road rash blasted), and passenger rocker panel from unavoidable
delaminating truck tire remnants on highway taking off the paint.
If I’m given $42 for the car ... it’s gone. I wish I didn’t have to sell it – and sometimes I wonder why I’m getting rid of it and increasing my debt – but after a near death experience (no ... not while driving), I’ve decided to splurge and ordered a 08 Turbo Cab (end of Feb build), and enjoy the rest of my new lease on life. Reluctantly I’ll have to sell this one.
The door will be open to any inspection, as I’m proud and honored to have my name of the list of ownership, as there isn’t a cleaner, nicer, better kept Porsche C4 Cab for sale in the U.S.A. with +/- 40 K on the clock.
This will go into the ‘cars for sale section’ once the weather clears and I can get some fresh pictures (as I’ve detailed this thing with over a week of ‘cure’ time between 3 coats of P21 wax and it shows!), but I’m posting this here for reference to your thread, and to share the concept of buying from an enthusiast and or a proud seller. There’s a lot of crap out there (desired ‘performance cars’ at ‘auctions’ are rarely quality), and without knowing some history on the car or dealing with an honest seller you can get someone else’s mistake which will cost you a lot within a short time. I hope it helps, and good luck in your search.

I’m told not to go into ‘details’ about it as there’s a law suit pending. But it has to do with Scuba Diving, a bad regulator (the breathing gear) at 80+ feet, being ‘assigned an unqualified, unvalidated, buddy for this level experience dive’ (that’s the key sentence), drowning, resuscitation, getting The Bends, (for those that don’t dive, ‘The Bends’ –aka- ‘Decompression Sickness’ are when bubbles form in the body and blood when going between pressures too quickly, as in 80 feet of water to the surface at a rapid pace). Decompression Sickness if not treated immediately, usually leads to death. I was extraordinarily lucky there was ‘someone’ on that boat that knew exactly what to do, the importance of oxygen and to immediately get me re-pressurized in a hyperbaric chamber.
I hope to take my first dive since this incident in late January almost 6 months later.
Please don't turn this into a pity-party as I'm alive ... again, doing well and it's not the topic of this thread. If you dive, do it with someone you know well and have practiced safety procedures with as a team.

i just paid 39.5 for mine with 16,500 miles on it. it has the flared rocker panels on it as well. i think i did pretty well but i'm sure that's an opinion that might change depending on locale.
