Need help on mounting my new amp in the factory location

I see a lot of people that mounted the amp where the factory CD and factory amp are. The Audison Lxr I have seems to be a tight fit in that location. But I do not know how to secure it. So I am looking for input from anyone on the form. My car is a 99 C2 coupe Thanks

I mounted my audison against the front of the trunk. There is metal bracket that sticks out just below where the hood latch is. I used that bracket to mount a piece of plexiglass, then mounted the amp to the plexiglass. Do a search for my username I posted a thread with pics a little while back.

I'll see if I can dig up my pics on Renntech for ya. I built an aluminum stand that bolts in where the factory unit was. Holds my JL 300/4 quite nicely, if I say so myself.

here ya go ... http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...=9184&hl=audio

Viper 501

That looks real nice. Did the angling of the amp provide room to shoot the crossovers under it? My amp is longer but not as wide. The preamps lines go in on the sides. Now all I need to do is find a source to fab one for me.

What is interesting I did a search for amp, amp install, etc on renntech and came up dry! Thanks for taking the time to get me the link!

Rdsii, thanks for the compliment. I have the crossovers mounted to the reverse side of the bracket now using VHB tape. Cleaned up the mounting a lot. Also did some work shortening and cleaning up the wiring.

Anyone with some sheet aluminum and a metal brake should be able to fab one up. The bolts on the firewall stabilize it and then there is a piece that slots into the old OEM amp mounting point behind the spare tire. You could weld that piece on like I did or even rivet or screw it together if you can't find someone to weld it properly.

The Audisons that I've seen should be a lot easier to fit in there. You may not even need to angle the spare tire. I had to because of the wiring points.

Couldn't find my old post, so here's a couple pics of where I put the amp and crossovers. Actually used the stock amp mounting bracket to mount the crossovers.

Ran all new speaker wire for the front dash speakers, and spliced into the factory harness for the doors and rear speakers. I know I should run some heavier wire to the door subs....one day, when I get the motivation to try and squeeze the wire through door harness.

I hope this isn't the dumbest newbie question

i have the factory CDR23, and understand that since it is a MOST system, i can't swap it. Can i dump the factory amp though, and put in an aftermarket one? I tried that in my old boxster, and something in the sound system never would work without the factory amp. So i replaced the head unit too, and have a neat whine from the motor!

Sorry i fogged that up- can i pull the factory amp but keep the factory head unit in a 2003 996?

Thanks.

Nope...for the same reasons...the head unit talks to amps via the MOST digital bus...so you need to change both...engine whine is common on Porsches...but iit can be dealt with...talk to an experienced Porsche installer.

Nuts.

so, i am stuck adding the new amp after the factory one, and worse, finding a place to put it in that tiny little boot? Oh well, the things we have to do to go fast and listen loud!

Thanks for the advice.

newport996, Finally finished the sub enclosure we talked about in another post, cant find the post though. Here's the pics. Did it in black carbon fiber, but came out a lot darker then I thought it would, I may just paint it.

and the car...... pretty much stock looking. New wheels and suspension on order though.
