just drove a Ferrari Modena 360...
first time i've ever driven a ferrari, probably the last. what a beautiful piece of machinery, anyone who thinks their PSE's sound cool needs to listen to one of these. the interior was quite spartan, the seats were well bolstered. the clutch is UNBELIEVABLY heavy but very smooth, shifting through the gate was somewhat of a project. as for the power, scary fast, not sure how it compares with a Porsche Turbo, but definately knocks you back in your seat. i say definately "prettier" than a Porsche, but for that money, i'll take a Porsche anyday.

its a well known fact that ferraris are the most expensive cars to maintain. the 355s were always in the shop for their fan belts to be replaced. Granted this isnt the case for ALL 355s, but most owners had this issue. I think its because ferraris are meant to be driven really hard for a short time and have 1K of repair done to the engine. Thats the racing heritage. and thats what ferrari brings to the road...the track comes to the road in a ferrari
With all due respect, “a well known fact†means little to me. I have owned three Ferrari’s, 2 I purchased new and one I purchased used. The total time in the shop for those three cars combined is less than the shop time for either of my NA 996s. My 00 996, purchased new, was in the shop for many minor problems before the trans had to be replaced at 15K miles. My 02 996 was much better but also went in for several minor issues, until last week. Last week is started poping out of 2nd and is new getting a new trans (8K miles on the car). I will say that I have had very few problems with my 01 Turbo; only one problem, trans cable fell off at 700 miles…
I have not owned a 355 but have a 360. The only problems I have had in total with my Ferrari’s, including using one as a daily driver, was an oil sending unit failure fixed under warranty.
After owning 10+ 911’s I am thoroughly unimpressed with the quality of the 996; I would not own one out of warranty.
My point is not to start a debate, just to provide another perspective. My experience, as an owner, does not support the general statements that Ferrari’s are higher maintenance…

Ferrari maintenance...
My friend just sold his 360 Modena because the 15,000 mile service is $15,000, and it just goes up from there.
He had many problems with it (such as F1 shifter breaking down), under warranty, but he feared driving it because of the costs of fixing anything that the warranty didn't cover (and he feared getting out of warranty, which would happen soon).
Basically, if you drive the car more than 3,000 miles a year, it's probably not worth it. My Porsche has 30,000 miles in 2 years, and I've put maybe $1,000 in maintenance into it.

I can't reply on the whole Ferrari thing, but I can say one thing. I will never own a Porsche out of warranty. The mere thought causes my bank account to convusle!
But with that said...I will never be without a Porsche.

As you say, the F1 (which seems to be performing far better than the Gallardo's E-Gear, which shudders terribly around town or when going up a steepish hill) is definitely covered under warranty, but so are all other problems you would have with the car. Short of bodywork, there's nothing his warranty wouldn't cover. Why the fear?
As for out of warranty, you can purchase warranty extensions, just like the P-cars.
But, you raise an interesting point - as the technology on modern cars increases significantly, are we going to want to own any of these out of warranty? F1 boxes on F-cars, once they go, will cost tens of thousands to replace - people are talking about it being cheaper to replace the entire system with a 6-speed than do major maintenance on the F1. Even P-cars now have so many computers in them, will we be able to restore modern cars like we can today with the classics from decades ago? An F-50 has a digital dash that, if it messes up, you have to send the car back to the factory and get a whole new dash. Computer are great, but to repair them...
BUT, in warranty, which as I say, you can extend, these things aren't issues. If you want the car long term, it's just another excuse (for me) to get a 6-speed
its a real shame that you would lie about a 15,000 service being 15 grand are you stupid or something you say your friend hd one but got rid of it my thoughts he never had one if he is telling you that kind of crap.
I own a 360 6 speed and have had no problems I put 6 thousand miles on it in 5 months these cars drive amazing but you have to drive it and drive it hard to boot the problems come when you use the car a a special drive and you are putting down the rd to show off the car is very unhappy at these times the car needs to have its legs streched out on the highway daily to be happy and that is what i give it. 15 grad service is 4-5 thousand not 15 thousand all that needs to be done are the belts need too be changed a nd some other minor things now a clutch on the other hadnd will cost you the same 4-5 grand. Ilove the gt2 and gt3 911tt is no way better then the 360 gt3 is close and of course the gt2 is a animal but the 360 is a ferrari and the rest are just cars in my eyes. the 360 is a real peice of art i could park it in my living room when i run the motor into the ground and still be just as siked as when i first got it.
