Which is best to go with?

Tell your friend to save his money as gains from an ECU remap are minimal on NA 996s...Even more so on MY02 on as Porsche has squeezed out every pony out of there in stock form...

i went with Todd at evo after researching. he has the system mapped out the best without any problems. have had mine for over a year and no problems. regardless to what others might say they guy knows the market and how to cater to it. hp gain is minimal, but the extra 500 rpm added to the rev limiter is nice.

Lays, Ruffles, Doritos! Those are the best chips you can buy for an MY02 and up!

I am with MSindi...It changes the powerband but minimul gains for the price you pay. If he is going to do it...add headers, ecu and exhaust....then he might see something.

He has a Fabspeed Exhaust and Cold Air kit already. Same as me.
(Seeing a pattern here?)
He is also considering adding Preformance Cat's.

Get you one of these:

You will get exactly the same performance increase as all of these other offers, and will save yourself some major bucks.

Of course, the rev limiter stays the same, but think of it this way, you don't have to pay someone to let you blow up your engine.

I have the Cargraphic headers and BMC airfilter was just about to get an ECU, after talking to lot's of people I'm going to save the 1000-1400 dollars and spend it on something else. Yes you can raise the rev limit 300-500 rpm, but you won't get 10-15hp from an ECU on the 02-04 3.6, on a 3.4 yes you can though. I spoke to By Design and Speed Gallery and they claim maybe 4-5hp, better throttle response and of course the extra 500 rpm. Better to save the $$ for the ECU when you have the TT and get the hp/tq.
Better to spend the $$ on sway-bars or coil-overs first if your going to track the car I think. I wish I could get an ECU and get 15hp and feel the difference but it isn't going to happen.

Did your "friend" end up going with any of the chips/flashes?

I have a "friend" also with a 01 996 and simular mods that's looking into the same thing. Please share your findings.

Shawn,

I also have a 2001 and am considering the same, really looking at the EVO.

Anybody, what is "flashing" and if you go with EVO's box switchout do you need to flash?

I had my 04 996 flashed by EVO in conjunction with the EVO intake and I don't care what anybody says, I CAN FEEL AND HEAR A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE! It kicks ***.

If you can't feel 22HP, then you are not as familliar with your car as you think.

Someone dyno their car with the chip and intake. Preferable the 3.4. We pretty much know it puts down 250 at the wheels. Paging Karlooz. I realize you need a baseline first but it will give you an estimate. Please someone dyno.
