RUF 550 997tt as fast as a 997 GT2

quoted from RC of Rennteam:

Not a test but a real life experience:

997 Turbo RUF 550 vs. 997 GT2
almost head to head acceleration with a little gain (third of a car length) for the 997 Turbo up to 200 kph, status quo up to around 290 kph with a tiny closing in of the GT2 by around one meter or so up to 320 kph. All kph values are SPEEDO values, not real speed values.

Meaning: there is no difference in acceleration between both. Pretty impressive. 997 Turbo Ruf 550 was Tiptronic.

If we're lucky, I may post some pictures next week (weather depending).

The $20K Ruf 550 package seems almost like a bargain compared to a GT2 pricetag.

I don't know, comparing a modded 997 Turbo to a stock GT2 is not a fair comparison. Can you imagine what kind of power the GT2 will be making after a simple software upgrade? 580-600hp. Now, that will be fast!!

Cool

I think someone here quoted 0-300 km/h in ~30,4 seconds with a Ruf 997TT 550 hp package, tiptronic (owner's car, tested with GPS)

Any official figures for the GT2?

One could always argue that the car is not stock, but I think moste people here do tune their cars and regardless a Ruf 550 would be in the same region of performance as a Ferrari 599 GTB and McLaren SLR (best time tested).
The mighty Carrera GT would be about 4 seconds after...

AMS tested the stock 997TT 0-300 km/h in 40,7 seconds, so the Ruf is more than 10 seconds faster! That's a few bus lenghts to say the least.

i think a huge thing between the car is what type of driving you want it for and how well you are with a viciously boosted 2wd. if you have talent and really learn the car its hands down the winner, but if your not that great a drive, i mean the average 6speeder average driver, the gt2 will be to much car for 2wd. its just a fact. i cant wait to see the first 6 months of posts of guys crashing there cars. its to vicious and very hard to modulate especially if most of your road time will be on the streets. meaning learning curve. i tt is just more fun for the average drive. but if you want the car to claim you own a gt2, that aint bad either. alot of us do it.

I couldn't agree more,i think the four wheel drive Porsche turbos flatter the average driver into thinking they are better then they really are, where as a car like the GT2 being rear wheel drive only, really sorts the men from the boys and is a car that wont tolerate being driven in a hamfisted manner.
I have to say it will be inevitable that we will see GT2 crash threads but i for one hope that any crashes wont be too serious and only some panels and pride are dented.

I wonder about that, because if the GT2 uses the same Turbo's (?), I wonder if the gains by modding would be as big as with the 997TT.

The GT2 already comes with a better exhaust, it is already more agressively tuned (ECU) by Porsche

Would be nice to have more detail about the differences between the GT2 and the 997TT (engine wise that is)

Mike

It is a fair comparison in that Porsche is just charging you $70k for the same mods and upholding the warranty. Very soon it will be clear that the GT2 uses the same turbos and just runs more boost and exhaust like every other STG2 kit

With the RUF 550hp package you get the 4 exhaust tips and a stronger clutch too but of course without the intercoolers and headers which are worth twice as much as the tips and clutch! now if EVO can hurry up with the upgraded turbos and match the RUF 600hp $44950.00
